SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Plant Engineer and leads from both the Plant Engineering and Maintenance departments, the engineering intern will focus on the activities involved with researching, designing and implementing new equipment and systems, retrofits to existing plant equipment and plant facility repairs and improvements. The engineering intern may also be expected to provide engineering support to maintenance activities throughout the plant.
A candidate with a mechanical engineering background will be focused on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and systems and use Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to prepare 2D and 3D drawings and layouts for fabrication and install. A candidate with an electrical engineering background will use AutoCAD electrical to develop and revise control designs through schematics, single line drawings and panel layouts, and will be involved in programming PLC and Human Machine Interfaces at the direction of the Electrical Engineers and Plant Engineer. Candidates with both backgrounds will be responsible for install supervision and leading or assisting in commissioning activities.

Participate as a multidisciplinary engineering team member.
Assist with the design, development, integration, and testing of new and retrofitted equipment and facility upgrades.
Plan and lead research investigations to collect data and develop equipment and facility specifications.
Provide technical support to maintenance, production and quality departments.

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Must have excellent mathematical, analytical, problem solving and organizations skills.
Possess a strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficient in PC programs, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel in cross-functional teams.
An Electrical Engineering student with programming experience with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley PLC software, and experience in AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.
A Mechanical Engineering Student with experience in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is a plus.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must be actively enrolled in an Engineering four-year degree program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
