Job Summary:
The Events Operations Manager at Manhattan College plays a crucial role in coordinating the physical and technological aspects of event preparation and execution. This position is responsible for managing the detailed set-up and breakdown of event spaces, ensuring each venue is perfectly arranged to meet the specific needs of a wide variety of events, including high-profile academic gatherings, internal and external conferences, and various departmental and student life events. The Events Operations Manager will oversee all logistical elements, from room layouts to audiovisual equipment, and will be the primary troubleshooter for any issues that arise during events.
The ideal candidate will excel in strategic planning, staff management, and operational logistics, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. This role demands strong organizational skills, the ability to manage inventory, budgets, and a commitment to maintaining the safety and cleanliness of event spaces. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for ensuring the success of every event.
Key Responsibilities:

Event Setup and Breakdown: Perform physical event set-ups and breakdowns (including room layouts and audiovisual equipment) for all meetings and events managed by Events & Conference Services (internal, co-sponsored, external, summer). Ensure the readiness of event spaces prior to and throughout event productions.

Troubleshooting: Available to troubleshoot any issues that arise during events.

Scheduling: Strategize, create, and submit weekly operations schedules for self and supporting staff based on event venue usage. Oversee, hire, manage, and communicate work schedules for student workers or staff assisting with event setups and staffing events.

Inventory Management: Responsible for event-related furniture, equipment, audiovisual inventory, storage, and repairs as needed.

Budget Management: Manage the college employment and federal student work-study budget.

Technical Documentation: Publish and maintain technical training and inventory documentation.

Safety and Cleanliness: Monitor cleanliness and safety of event rooms.

Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional communication through email and phone as needed.
Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree or higher.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in an event-driven industry that includes problem-solving, staff supervision/management, strong communication skills, and the ability to physically set up furniture for events.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of concepts, best practices, and procedures in operating audiovisual systems.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform extensive physical labor to move, set up, and break down furniture.

Additional Qualifications: Valid drivers license. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and carry out all tasks assigned in a timely manner in a deadline-driven environment with multiple changes to the event schedule.
