Job Description / Essential Elements:Print
The duties and responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
•Participate in a collaborative site office team, promoting a positive and welcoming school climate. Foster school pride and positive community relations.
•Assist students in the areas of academic and career planning and in social/emotional development
•Provide individual and small group counseling in a variety of settings
•Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting.
•Serve on the SST (Student Success Team)
•Make appropriate referrals of students and parents to outside agencies and specialists
•Plan, evaluate and revise the school counseling program as school needs and students needs change.
•Plan, implement, maintain and evaluate the systems necessary for the support, maintenance and improvement of the school counseling program.
•Contribute to a program of public relations.
•Develop and maintain skills needed to utilize technology systems and participate in professional development activities as a member of the school staff.
•Articulate the school counseling program to students, parents, teachers, staff and community.
•Coordinate report card and failure notice collection and distribution; including publishing a “D”, “F”, and “I” lists and coordinating retention/promotion programs of all students.
•Promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
•Monitor and advise students and their parents as to the importance of daily school attendance.
•Monitor and advise students and their parents as to progress towards promotion
•Prepare students for the transition to the next grade level; including high school and post high school planning
•Monitor and evaluate the Master Schedule for the school site.
•Coordinate group testing including pre-testing activities and post-testing activities.
•Provide individual planning sessions to students in the areas of academic planning and success, career awareness and social/emotional development in accordance with state grade level standards
•Conduct structured goal-oriented counseling session in systematic response to identified needs of groups of children. Themes include academic skill building, social skill development, career awareness, conflict resolution, drug and alcohol awareness, family issues and making healthy choices.
•Interpret test results, report cards, student data and other assessment results appropriately in the counseling environment to site administration, parents and staff.
•Provide individual counseling in response to student requests.
•Provide information and skills to parents in order to assist them in helping their children in academic, career and social development
•Take a leadership role in the infusion of counseling content into the curriculum, staff development and parent education programs.
•Assist parents in addressing school related problems and issues.
•Promote the liaison and coordination of school activities and resources and communicate between and among home, school and community.
•Adhere to the ethical standards of state and national school counselor associations.
•Adhere to preferred practices prescribed by state and nationals school counselor associations
