The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced Park Maintenance Leader – CDL to perform skilled park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, trash removal, trail and athletic field maintenance and preparation and snow removal by working in a team environment and occasionally leading small groups of career and/or intermittent employees. The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, forklifts, and other such equipment.
This position will have a work schedule of Sunday through Thursday from 6:00am – 2:45pm, however, based on work program needs, the work schedule may change to Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday.
Please Note: The salary range listed above represents the earning potential for this position; budgeted salary range is $45,792 - $63,446. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Examples of Important Duties
Provide leadership and coordination of landscaping team and work assignments
Perform skilled maintenance of landscape
Utilize Commercial Driver’s License to perform park maintenance tasks.
Ensure staff is utilizing proper safety equipment.
Inspect finished work assignments to ensure they are of high quality.
Train subordinates in the proper method and safety involving assigned tasks.
Mixes and sprays chemicals to treat plant and turf diseases or eliminate pests.
Operate various types of equipment, from handheld to light equipment.
Ensure that all supplies, chemicals, and equipment are used and stored correctly.
Maintain and ensure inventory is accurate to maintain equipment, parks, and facilities within our division.
Provide input on reporting of assignments of staff to the direct supervisor.
Obtain quotes, estimates, and properly order materials needed to complete tasks.
Complete work orders and submit to Park Manager daily.
Utilize EAM (work order tracking system) to book labor and provide necessary details.
Prepares and reports on-the-job injuries
Snow removal and other weather-related duties.
Lead and monitor Park/General Maintenance Workers with day-to-day job duties, general park maintenance, program support, playgrounds, snow removal, ballfield and trails maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years experience working in the Grounds Management Industry.
Strong work ethic with the ability to independently lead a team.
Class A CDL to transport crew members and/or equipment to successfully perform work program responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in ground maintenance, golf course maintenance, building maintenance or park maintenance.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
Pass Commission medical examination.
Depending upon an assignment, positions in this class may require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:
Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements is required within six months of employment.
