JOB PURPOSE: - PART TIME CONTRACTED ADVANCEMENT BRIEFINGS WRITER

The Contract Advancement Briefings Writer reports to the Interim Campaign Director. This position is responsible for researching, compiling, writing, and producing high-quality, comprehensive, and customized briefings for one-on-one donor meetings and college events to prepare executive staff, trustees and principal gift frontline fundraisers to effectively engage and inspire support from Pomona’s most generous donors. This position will remain a contracted, part-time position until the new Campaign Director is hired.

The Contract Advancement Briefings Writer is part of a highly collaborative fundraising team charged with implementing Pomona’s historic comprehensive fundraising campaign. The Contract Advancement Briefings Writer will collaborate closely with advancement staff and academic partners to ensure that each briefing is strategically aligned with our fundraising goals and effectively supports impactful donor engagement efforts.

The Contract Advancement Briefings Writer must be an efficient collaborator with excellent communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reporting directly to the Interim Campaign Director, the Contract Advancement Briefings Writer must work independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
 

For one-on-one donor meetings:

Gather, organize and compile pertinent information from various sources (such as internal databases, key advancement teams and campus contacts) for donor briefing, including philanthropic interests, giving history, personal background and any relevant connections to Pomona College.

For event briefings:

Gather, organize and compile pertinent information from various sources for event briefing, including program schedule, RSVP lists, seating assignments, remarks, and other critical assets to share with executive staff and principal gift fundraiser attendees

Craft clear, concise, and thorough briefings that synthesize complex information into actionable insights and bespoke talking points for executive staff and principal gift frontline fundraisers

Tailor briefings to align with specific donor engagement strategies and campaign priorities, ensuring relevance and effectiveness in cultivating donor relationships.

Prepare high-quality briefing documents in a timely manner, incorporating relevant documentation, data visualizations, and supporting materials to enhance understanding and engagement.

Collaborate closely with the advancement team, including Interim Campaign Director, Office of the President, Office of the Vice President, Research and Relationship Management, Stewardship, Advancement Communication and Events, Alumni and Family Engagement and other College departments to gather insights, refine strategies and coordinate briefing priorities.

Maintain a keen attention to detail and uphold rigorous standards of accuracy, confidentiality, completeness and professionalism in all briefing materials.

Copyedit and proofread fundraising, stewardship and other materials as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree with strong English writing capabilities.

Experience: The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years of experience with advancement communications. Experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred, as is working in a comprehensive fundraising campaign environment. Experience in a complex academic development setting encouraged. Strong understanding of the issues, nuances and needs of a diverse academic enterprise and liberal arts environment.

REQUIRED HOURS:

The regular hours for this part-time, 30 hours a week, Monday – Friday, daily hours may be negotiated, holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.

HOURLY RATE:

The hourly rate for this role is between $35.00 and $45.00.  The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles.
