DESCRIPTION
Project Kuiper is a visionary initiative within Amazon that aims to revolutionize global connectivity through the development of a state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit (LEO) interconnected satellite communication constellation. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-speed, low latency, internet services to underserved and unserved communities and remote communities around the world. By leveraging cutting-edge satellite technology, we are working towards a future where everyone has access to reliable and high-quality internet connectivity regardless of their location.
The Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) Engineering organization is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. KGS Engineering leads the development and delivery of targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. KGS collaborates closely with Project Kuiper to leverage the constellation of advance satellites to provide seamless and efficient communication capabilities to meet the needs of our customers. The KGS Engineering team is seeking dynamic and talented individuals who are passionate about creating unique technical solutions that result in a positive impact on a global scale.
The Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) Engineer will proactively drive the design for reliability, availability, and maintainability of Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) systems. This role is responsible for developing and leading the RAM process and delivering on RAM objectives across both space-based and terrestrial applications. This role will require collaborating closely with system-level and subsystem teams, providing technical inputs and guidance on designs, and supporting detailed analysis and test capabilities.
As a member of the KGS Engineering Integrated Engineering Solutions (IES) organization, the candidate will have experience developing and implementing both analytical and empirical approaches for mission assurance, product quality, reliability risk identification and assessment, and availability and maintainability analysis during product design, manufacturing, integration, testing, deployment, and mission operation stages. The individual should be able to drive KGS system and product requirements in executing stress driven risk analysis, including thermal, electrical and mechanical stresses in order to identify overstress, and fatigue-related product weaknesses. This individual is capable of evaluating not only product design quality/reliability risks, but also has the skillset and experiences to assess electronics manufacturing process related quality/reliability issues. The candidate is also able to provide system level mission impacts with mitigation approaches to support CONOPS or devise alternative approaches to meet performance objectives.
At the component level, the candidate will drive critical component identification, vendor selection, and qualification requirements. The candidate is expected to use knowledge of process capabilities for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and Electrical, Electronic and Electro-mechanical (EEE) component production as well as system-level performance requirements to establish critical quality and reliability metrics.
At the system level, the RAM engineer will develop system level RAM models, RAM assessments, and risk analyses for space vehicle optimization. The candidate will be expected to be familiar with system RAM engineering tools and methods, including but not limited to reliability block diagram, Markov model, fault tree, failure modes, critical items list, statistical modeling, and data analytics.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on large-scale programs with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations (including government agencies).
Key job responsibilities
Act as the subject matter expert for reliability, availability, and maintainability analysis and test for Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) system and subsystem designs
Develop system level RAM models and establish RAM allocations across space vehicle subsystems and terrestrial products to meet RAM requirements
Specify and develop end-to-end RAM models and analysis results to support validation of performance against customer and/or partner requirements
Review, guide, support subsystem teams FMECAs, predictive modeling techniques, and test plans
Establish test capabilities, and failure analysis as needed
Create RAM validation test plans and implement specific validation items including resource allocations, validation schedule assumptions, and validation items scope
Analyze test data and engage with others in KGS, customers, suppliers, or partners to evaluate the product reliability and provide proactive feedback on mitigation approaches
Report RAM validation execution progress and issues, and track the issues from creation to closure
Cooperate with cross-functional teams and other test engineers on debugging, failure analysis, and resolution of issues observed during test
Evaluate and develop RAM validation test methodologies to reduce test time and increase test coverage
Support second source qualification and factory escalations in RAM validation
Work with OEMs and leverage OEM resources for research
Qualify components manufactured by suppliers and/or 3rd party partners
Security Clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI, so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.
