Under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, installation, and repair activities for City buildings, structures, and facilities; and to regularly inspect the condition of City buildings and facilities. Exercises no supervision.
Examples of Duties
Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures including faucets, sinks, toilets, water heaters, and drains;
Installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains electrical wiring, fuses, switches, motors, generators, lighting systems, and other fixtures and equipment;
Repairs, installs, and constructs tables, shelves, cabinets, counter-tops, and other wood equipment and fixtures;
Repairs, replaces, and maintains chain link fencing, block walls, and block buildings;
Services, installs, and repairs natural gas fixtures, boiler systems, heating and ventilating equipment, and air conditioning equipment;
Identifies damaged or worn electrical components and takes corrective action as assigned;
Prices, orders, and obtains parts and equipment for a variety of maintenance projects;
Modifies blueprints to reflect plumbing, electrical, and building alterations;
Adjusts timers for City lighting, heating, and cooling systems;
Replaces glass/plastic in windows and doors;
Installs weather stripping;
Paints and uses stencil as assigned;
Finishes cabinets and counter-tops;
Installs tile and carpet;
Makes repairs on doors, windows, floors, lockers, gates, gate openers, roofs, and ceilings; and
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
Two years of skilled experience performing duties in building maintenance.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license at time of appointment.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
Ability to work in a standard office environment and outdoors; ability to travel to different sites and locations;
Regularly required to talk or hear. Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, and climb;
Ability to lift 60 pounds.
Exposure to outdoors, heat, confining work space, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
