Under the direction of the an assigned administrator, organize and direct the development and implementation of the Youth Enrichment program and related after-school activities at an assigned school site; coordinate communications, resources and personnel to meet student needs and assure smooth and efficient Program operations and activities.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Organizes and directs the development and implementation of the Youth Enrichment program and related after-school activities at an assigned school site; coordinates operations and activities to provide a safe after-school learning environment for students; assures school site Program activities comply with established laws, codes, rules and regulations.
Coordinates communications, resources and personnel to meet student needs and assure smooth and efficient Program operations and activities; collaborates with administrators, staff, community organizations and others in the development and implementation of the school site Program, after-school activities and extended learning opportunities to meet student needs and District standards.
Schedules, arranges, oversees and conducts a variety of after-school functions including recreational, athletic and educational functions; coordinates activities and personnel to provide academic support, tutoring, literacy development and homework assistance to students enrolled in the Program; prepares and arranges monthly event calendars.
Organizes, directs and participates in the observation and control of student behavior during Program activities according to established policies and procedures; assures proper and timely resolution of student behavior issues; oversees student attendance functions and maintains related records.
Establishes and maintains contact with community organizations, parents and the public to promote involvement in after-school programs and activities; coordinates activities and directs involvement with community organizations and volunteers.
Communicates with administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Assures adequate resources and facilities to meet Program needs; arranges for facilities and order supplies and equipment as necessary; provides snacks for students.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to the Youth Enrichment program, after-school activities, students, incidents, accidents, registration fees, volunteers, snacks, personnel and assigned activities.
Operates a variety of office equipment including a copier, computer and assigned software.
Oversees the collection of student registration fees as directed.
Attends and conducts various meetings as assigned; coordinates and conduct employee training sessions; prepares related support materials.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
This Class must meet the requirements of the Federal and State "No Child Left Behind" NCLB legislation. Qualifications are any combination equivalent to 48 semester units of college study or an AA Degree or upon passing a NCLB qualifying written examination, supplemented by college-level course work in child development or related field and two years increasingly responsible experience, including student supervision in an educational or recreational program.

Possession of a valid first aid certificate required prior to completion of probationary period.

Examination Information
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the NCLB guidelines above.
The first step in the process will be a written exam for those applicants that do not submit their transcripts to verify the completion of 48 or more semester units. This will be a multiple choice exam that covers English, Math, and the Ability to Assist. Study materials are available in the Human Resources department. These materials cannot be sent electronically, you will need to stop by in person to obtain them.
For all applicants that have completed 48 or more semester units OR have successfully passed all three sections of the test described above, there will be a written exam with job-specific questions. Your score on the second written exam will determine your rank on the eligibility list. There is no waiver for the second exam.
Positions in the job classification typically work 20-40 hours/week for 180 student instructional days.
Please note: The qualifying pass point on written examinations may be an actual score or an adjusted score based on the difficulty of the examination, the quality of the competition, and the needs of the service.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Hayward Unified School District will provide a contribution of up to $2,500 per year to be used towards a District healthcare plan or cash in lieu of up to $1,350 per year. Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits unless proof of alternate coverage is provided. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The balance of health benefit costs are paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
Dental coverage is provided free of charge for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more. Family coverage is available and any additional premium will be employee paid.
Classified employees must participate in the CalPERS Retirement program.
All employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
