ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General
1.? Complete and disperse appropriate paperwork within required time frames.
2.? Complete Center Meal Count Attendance sheet at point of service daily and document.
3.? Supervise and train in appropriate practices all staff, parents, student workers and volunteers assigned to the center.
4.? Maintain an updated parent information board in the center.
5.? Complete in a timely manner necessary evaluations for EHS Associate Teacher and on-call staff, as?requested.
6.? Complete and update first aid, communicable disease, CPR, OSHA regulations, child abuse and other training deemed necessary by the program administration.
7.? Complete and post Weekly Planning Forms including codes for all children using Creative Curriculumstudies.
8.? Post updated menus, record temperatures and make corrections as substitutions occur. Send menus to parents/ guardians.
9.? If listed as a center administrator, the Early Head Start LeadTeacher will be present in the center at least half of the hours that the center is in operation to meet Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing Rules. The center administrator hours will be posted on the ODJFS licensing board.
10. Maintain and replenish classroom supplies ensuring that all childrens toys and classroom furniture are cleaned on a monthly basis and that furniture is kept in good condition. Report any splintering wood, etc., to your Education Supervising Manager.
11. Complete and maintain records of two fire drills in October. One fire drill must occur during the first week of school. Complete and maintain records of one fire drill per month. Promote fire safety awareness daily.
12. Complete and maintain records of one tornado drill per month throughout the entire year.
13. Be respectful with the staff and owners in the buildings in which we rent space. Be responsible with facilities. (Often times we are in a rented facility and must be respectful of this.) All concerns must be addressed with the Education Supervising Manager or the Child Health and Education Director, not with thestaff in the buildings in which we rent.
14. Collaborate with L.E.A. specialists (speech therapists, itinerant staff, etc.) who will be working with children in the center. Provide required paperwork.
15. Maintain an updated Center Binder/File.
16. Complete a yearly inventory check.
17. Remain current on policies, procedures, and activities of Ohio Heartland Head Start and ODJFS Child Care Licensing Rules.
18. Work in cooperation with Head Start managers and specialists, documenting, and making referrals when necessary and/or required.
19. Report any cases of suspected child neglect or abuse to Children Services, keeping the Social Service area staff, Education Manager and Intervention Manager advised of any reported or suspected concerns.
20. Adhere to all OHCAC Personnel Policies and Procedures and all written agency policies.
21. Empower families by helping them identify their needs and available resources.
22. Encourage and promote self-sufficiency.
23. Maintain confidentiality of staff, children and family records at all times.
24. Participate in all required training and meetings.
25. Communicate effectively and interact with children, their parents/guardians and other staff and volunteers and community representatives.
26. Document goals for children on an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), if applicable.
27. Attend IFSP Meetings, when possible and assist parents/guardians in understanding the goals.
28. Encourage parents/guardians to attend Policy Council and arrange transportation for them when necessary.
29. Provide a variety of educational material to help in all phases of living and raising children.
30. Treat families with dignity and respect.
31. Maintain adult/child ratio at all times according to ODJFS licensing rules.
32. Will be required with prior notice to work flexible hours outside the normal 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. workday on occasion in order to adhere to and stay in compliance with regulations stated within the Head Start Performance Standards
33. Due to program needs, least senior employee in a position must accept Re-Call from Seasonal Lay Off or unemployment will be terminated and discharge will follow.
34. Integrate all Early Head Start areas during home visits.
35. Enter childrens attendance and Family Partnership Agreement information into Child Plus.
36. Work with parents/guardians to develop plans for the next home visit and conferences based on each child's assessment, interests and identified family needs.
37. Role Model for parents, techniques to use in behavior management, language development and making an activity age appropriate for each individual child.
38. Support and lift parents and children's self-esteem by building on what they already know and using materials found in the home.
39. An Early Head Start Lead Teacher is a facilitator and an advocate, who wears many different hats in order to meet the needs of the families.?
40. Operate the center in full compliance with the Ohio Heartland CAC Head Start Child Positive Behavior Support Policy that prohibits corporal punishment.
Parent Involvement
1.? Assist parents/guardians in developing and fostering healthy self-concepts for themselves, and assist parents in becoming the prime family educator.
2.? Foster the belief in parents as their child's first teacher and reinforce this concept with practical suggestions for its development.
3.? Provide guidance and leadership in the planning of and participation in Family Connection meetings scheduled at least once per month.
Education
1.? Provide ongoing screening of enrolled children with the Ages & Stages Questionnaire, Third Edition ? (ASQ-3) at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 42, 48, 54, and 60 months of age for possible developmental delays, unless the child is on an IFSP.? With the parent, complete the Ages & Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) screening tool for Early Head Start children beginning at 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48 and 60 months, unless the child is on an IFSP.
2.? Assess children using the Teaching Strategies assessment on an on-going basis.
3.? Assist parents in learning Child Development, along with techniques from Conscious Discipline.
4.? Provide developmentally appropriate lesson plans using Creative Curriculum.
5.? Ensure that program resources and activities reflect the multi-cultural diversity of the community.
6.? Ensure a smooth transition from the home-base option to the center option.
7.? A variety of age appropriate activities is shared and given to the parents/ guardians to use and keep.
Social Service
1.? Make referrals and arrange transportation for families, when necessary, to community service offices.
2.? Assist parents in utilizing all available community resources.
3.? Act as a liaison and advocate between community resources and Head Start families.
4.? Actively promote the Head Start program.
5 Meet with Family Engagement Manager to plan cooperative objectives in the provision and follow through of services.
6.? Create a Family Partnership Agreement with each family, help families identify and reach theirgoal(s), provide information and follow up per Policy and Procedures.
Health
1.? Assist families when necessary in the arrangement of and transportation to medical and dental appointments and follow-ups.
2.? Work with families to insure that children have physicals, dentals, shots and screening as required by Head Start Performance Standards.
3.? Plan one nutrition, one dental, one mental health and one drug/alcohol activity a month.
4.? Conduct health checks during every contact with the child and family.
5.? Assist families in learning to use Universal Precautions.
6.? Change soiled clothing while following OSHA and Health regulations and guidelines
7.? Fully participate in and contribute to healthy family style meals including retrieving and returning dishes and food, setting and serving meals following USDA and Head Start Performance Standards, ODH standards, and ODJFS Child Care Licensing Rules, and Step Up to Quality Requirements.
8.? Maintain a clean, safe, environment at all times including outdoor areas, center, and bathrooms.
9.? Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs of the children as individuals and as a group.
10. Document height and weight measurements as required and submit measurements to assigned Health Manager.
Professionalism
1.? Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
2.? Maintain quality time management, organizational, record keeping skills and documentation skills.
3.? Adhere to the OHCAC Personnel Policies and Procedures and other approved policies, and ensures compliance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Rules and Regulations.
4.? Adhere to the Head Start Performance Standards.
5.? Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with co-workers and families.
6.? Participate in Head Start in-Service training and other meetings, workshops, and conferences that may be assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.? Drive the parent van when required and if qualified.
2.? Substitute in the centers when required.
3.? Attend training, workshops, other educational opportunities and college classes as part of the professional development plan.
4.? Perform any duty as assigned in order to meet or stay in compliance with state or federal regulations.
5.? Must be willing to travel within Marion, Crawford, Morrow or Richland counties.
6.? Transfer of site assignment when necessary for the operation of the program when management finds it appropriate.
7.? Perform any assigned duties in an efficient and dependable manner to meet or stay in compliance with state and federal regulations.
8.? Assist in the classroom, on the bus, screening or other needed areas as required by the Director, Supervisor, or Specialist, including using a personal car for work related errands, including the transport of food.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
1.? The Early Head Start LeadTeacher is accountable for the above essential functions to the Education Supervising Manager.
2.? Video and audio recordings will be made during Head Start activities and observations and will be used for public relations, professional development, training and/or possible disciplinary action.
3. Drug and alcohol testing to be conducted as required by OHCAC and funding source.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1.? Associate of Arts or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education.
2.? Two years experience working with children in an organized setting or a combination of college and years of experience, preferred.
3.? Must be able to work independently with initiative and creativity and be must be flexible, non-judgmental, resourceful, energetic, dependable, friendly and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
4.? Must have a valid Ohio Driver's License, carry up-to-date private vehicle insurance and have ready access to a drivable vehicle.
5.? Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals preferred.

6.? Ability to compute rates, ratios, and/or percentages preferred.
7.? Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
