Position Description:
The Accounting Manager - Plant Operations will be located at the Goodyear headquarters building in Akron, Ohio. In this role you will have a team of approximately 5 to 7 plant controllers located throughout the US and Canada and be responsible for oversight of the controls, accounting, and inventory costing activities for North America tire plant operations, including managing and developing a team of Plant Controllers and indirect reports in the Centralized Plant Accounting group. This includes leadership responsibility for the inventory standard cost updates, monthly financial statement close and account reconciliations, financial reporting, internal controls, and plant payroll. The Accounting Manager - Plant Operations will support North America tire manufacturing finance leadership to ensure finance goals and objectives are achieved.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Lead and support a team of plant controllers responsible for plant accounting, controls, payroll processing and other varying responsibilities by location.
- Manage controlling activities and processes for North America tire plants, including financial closing and journal entry and account reconciliation reviews. Assist with oversight of Centralized Plant Accounting to provide timely and accurate financial information. Provide in depth analysis on financials for Goodyear management.
- Oversee inventory costing, including managing the process to update standard costs.
- Ensure relevant business process controls and processes are documented, tested and functioning to a level of compliance with U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley, and company policy.
- Participate in and lead various projects, ensuring deadlines are met and objectives achieved. Support Operations Controller with ad-hoc assignments.
- Research and provide accounting guidance and/or position papers for new or complex transactions. Advise manufacturing operational functions on implementation of new processes and their impact on financials. Evaluate and implement procedures and processes to comply with new corporate policy and US GAAP.
- Identify areas of opportunity maximizing efficiencies and productivity between Plant Controlling Teams and the Centralized Plant Accounting Team.
- Develop associates and ensure a strong performance management process that aligns individual objectives with business metrics and connects performance against objectives to compensation and career progression.
Required Experience and Education:
- B.S. in Accounting and/or Finance
- 8 or more years of progressive experience in accounting, with 3-5 years in a lead management role with direct reports.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and experience ensuring internal controls are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
Preferred Personal Skills/Attributes/and Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in accounting and/or finance or MBA, CPA
- Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations from previous controllership responsibility in a manufacturing environment, including inventory costing responsibility.
- Advanced system and software knowledge, including SAP and Microsoft Excel.
- Project and change management experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proactive and analytical with the ability to grasp a situation quickly from different perspectives and created well-reasoned solutions.
- Experience building a high-performing finance team and developing talent for the organization.
- Ability to travel within the Americas, as needed.
