Job Description Summary | Non tenure track (NTT) faculty are expected to contribute primarily through teaching and administrative work such as supporting regional office adjuncts and supervisors, assisting staff, and advising students. This NTT assistant faculty position will join our Inclusive Education/Education Specialist Preliminary Credential Program and support Early Childhood Special Education courses. Additionally, this position collaborates with the fieldwork team to review applications for interns and student teachers, assign fieldwork supervisors, and support fieldwork administrative processes in our teacher credential programs. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of inclusive education, particularly in effectively preparing general education teachers and education specialists for service in inclusive settings and engagement in co-teaching. The position necessitates strengths in multiple teaching and learning modalities, curriculum development, as well as communication and collaboration skills.
Essential skills include strong organization skills and the ability to make independent decisions as well as collaborate with others in decision making. Familiarity with California state teaching and early childhood special education credential requirements is desired. Knowledge of PK-12 district processes and procedures and the ability to interact with regional school districts is highly valued. This is a full-time, year-round position with summer administrative and outreach responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership in course and program development and implementation in the Inclusive/ Education Specialist credential, Early Childhood special education and/or Multiple Subject, with specific focus on the Bakersfield regional campus. - Advise students from beginning to end of graduate program, with a focus on support and retention of all students.
- Teach afternoon and evening courses, in-person and online
- Collaborate and provide leadership with faculty in Teacher Education in program initiatives/ projects.
- Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
- Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self- evaluation process of self-reflection.
Student Centered Duties and responsibilities include: - Serve as regional faculty coordinator and point of contact for students regarding program policies and procedures.
- Work at the Bakersfield and other regional campus locations.
- Support students in clinical fieldwork, student teaching, and internships.
- Support regional faculty, adjuncts and university supervisors.
- Attend regional meetings in the community and with local districts to promote and represent the university.
- Participate in college-related activities such as registration, student retention, and faculty selection.
- Maintain posted office hours, electronic communication, schedule appointments as needed, and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Evaluate student work constructively and provide timely feedback.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend student learning materials.
- Review, evaluate, and revise teaching methods through a self-valuation/self-reflection process.
- Develop and use a syllabus and course information material for each course within University’s guidelines.
- Plan, develop, and use effective teaching methods and materials which are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and engages the students in learning.
- Contribute to advancing the goals of the department and university including focus on student achievement, supporting diversity, and fostering community engagement.
- Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
- Meet or exceed professional standards, APA mandated guidelines, and discipline-specific requirements, as appropriate to the discipline.
- Participate in activities required to maintain program accreditation standards as well as professional organizations (as appropriate)/
- Contribute to programs and activities that support departmental goals.
- Participate in full regalia in official graduation ceremonies.
