Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Safety Officer I in the University Police department.
The Monmouth University Police Department (MUPD) is the primary department charged with creating a safe and secure environment at Monmouth University. MUPD operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The department consists of professional university police, safety officers, dispatchers, staff, and administrators dedicated to providing the best available resources to our community. Safety officers work in several areas, including the main campus, the Graduate Center at Monmouth Park Corporate Center, and the University Bluffs in Long Branch.

Ability to work on all shifts (standard work week is 40 hours, regular shifts are 8 hours), during various hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime is mandatory.
Physical demands are more than those for sedentary or medium-heavy work; must be able to remain on feet for a minimum of eight hours at a time with breaks. Must be able to defend one’s self or others from attack or physical assault.
.The position requires moderate physical activity. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run or otherwise move objects?
Must possess strong critical thinking skills; ability to handle sensitive and challenging situations with professionalism and compassion; ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a diverse team; display sensitivity to the unique role that security plays in a university setting.
Effective oral and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Firm conflict resolution, negotiation, collaboration, and facilitation skills and experience.
Computer and written skills consistent with completing detailed and comprehensive reports on computer-based reporting systems; must have meticulous attention to detail.
Must be reliable and able to work independently under established guidelines; must be able to perform duties at night and during inclement weather, including rain, snow, extreme heat, or cold.
A valid driver’s license in your state of residence and have had no serious violations (Type A) within the past five (5) years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three (3) years. University Policy found here: Monmouth University Vehicle Use Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree, two years of college, trade school, or equivalent education; Bachelor’s degree highly preferred; Higher Education public safety experience is a plus. The ability to speak a second language is a plus.
