COMMUNITY SERVICES LEADER –RECREACTION CENTERS

The City of Mission Viejo seeks qualified candidates to serve as our next Community Services Leaders to provide excellent customer service to our Recreation & Fitness Center members. Candidates will assist with working at the front desk, answering questions from the public. checking in players for courts and programs, and booking reservations.
There are three (3) current Community Services Leader vacancies within the Recreation & Community Services Department to work opening and closing shifts depending on the needs of the Montanoso and Sierra Recreation and Fitness Centers.
Community Services Leaders are considered Hourly, Seasonal, and/or Temporary employees, and are not part of the competitive service. Incumbents will work a flexible part-time schedule, with an average of 10 to 12 hours per week, with increased scheduling during peak workload periods, but less than 1,000 hours during assignments through the fiscal year starting July 1st and ending June 30th.
Recreation Centers are open Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These positions may be rotated through Recreation & Community Services facilities. The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the City. The eligibility list established for this current recruitment may be used to fill future Community Services Leader vacancies.
Examples of Important and Essential Duties
Your impact
Open, close, and secure facilities at prescribed times and check for safety and maintenance concerns; maintain all amenities and operations of the recreation centers; including providing good customer service that will help create memorable experiences for patrons that visit the facilities, attend special events, and book the recreation centers for parties at either Montanoso or Sierra Recreation Centers.
Ensure a safe environment for staff and participants and maintain responsible operations of the recreation centers and programs at all times; make regular rounds to all areas within the facility to ensure that activities are conducted safely and appropriately.
Respond to all injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures; maintain Red Cross certifications to respond to land and water emergencies and maintain familiarity with Emergency Action Plans for both recreation centers.
Compile facility usage statistics and document all staff reports, facility issues, participant concerns, injuries, and incidents.
Provide positive public relations and policy education to facility patrons; resolve participant conflicts and disputes with tact and diplomacy.
Assist with facility reservations, including phone and front counter contact, registering patrons for classes and programs, processing receipts, and record keeping.

Experience and Training and License/Certificate
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to the completion of ninth (9th) grade, and one (1) year of experience in community services, cultural arts, and/or recreational activities for varying age groups, OR completion of at least twelve (12) units of college-level coursework in recreation, physical education or a closely related field.
License and/or Certificates:
Applicants must be 15 years of age or older at the time of appointment for Community Services Leader. Applicants under the age of 18, that are required to attend school, must provide a California Workers Permit.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain, a valid Standard First Aid Certificate is required within three (3) months of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain, a valid American Red Cross or American Heart Association Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) for Infant, Child, and Adult, is required within three (3) months of appointment.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain, a valid California Driver's License may be required.
