| General Description/Position Purpose | Shippensburg University is currently accepting applications for a Director of Accounting.
The Director of Accounting is responsible for the coordination and recording of all university financial accounting information. This encompasses maintaining and monitoring the general ledger accounting system (SAP) and retaining any supporting documentation as appropriate. The Office is also responsible for the preparing of the University’s financial statements and other financial reports as required including but not limited to the Key 93/Infrastructure, NCAA, Summer School, Camps & Conferences, Snyder and IPEDS Reports. The Director serves as the main contact for any State System or State auditors. The Office has responsibility for Fixed Asset accounting, debt management and coordination, and maintenance of the plant fund accounting system.
This position provides managerial oversight as needed to the Grant Accounting Office, the Accounts Payable Office and the Warehouse/Mailroom.
The Director of Accounting is also responsible for ensuring the Accounting Office is strategic and innovative, operating in an economic, efficient, and effective manner, and focused on providing superior professional service, support, and guidance to the larger University community. The Director will be expected to continuously improve the financial management of the University and work closely with senior administrators, faculty, staff, and students to ensure a strong and efficient financial control environment that supports the educational mission of the University.

The Director of Accounting needs to possess strong technical skills and be an excellent communicator, capable of building effective working relationships with a range of constituents.
Description of Duties
1. Preparation of Financial Statements – This activity includes taking financial data from the financial system, making any necessary adjustments, and then presenting this data in approved financial statement format and then conveying this information to senior management, auditors, and the System Office,
2. Completion of various reports – This involves the preparation of various reports that are needed on a fixed basis (i.e. monthly, semi-annually, yearly) and ones that are requested on an ad hoc basis. Activities include the research, extraction, analysis, and presentation of accounting system data in the format required by the internal or external requestor.
3. Coordination and Recording of Financial Accounting Information – This involves taking financial data from various sources and accurately recording in the financial system. Reviewing and modifying accounting business processes is also required.
4. Plant Fund Accounting – This activity involves the development and monitoring of a project based system that tracks budgetary allotments, debt proceeds, encumbrances, expenditures, and revenues. Also responsible for long range projections on how to finance various future capital projects. Also responsible for developing reporting formats to communicate this information to senior management and to the campus community.
5. Provide Managerial Oversight to the Grant Accounting Function as needed.
6. Provide Managerial Oversight to the Accounts Payable and Warehouse/Mailroom Functions as needed.
7. Debt Management – This activity involves acting as a coordinator between the University and any lending source, to ensure that financial is obtained on a timely basis, submitting any reports required by the lending entity, preparing in –depth analyses of the financial activity of debt-related projects, submitting reimbursement requests for bond issues, ensuring that all debt related accounting entries are properly recorded in the accounting system and can be traced to external supporting documentation, and to monitor all debt related financial activity.
8. Other duties as required.
