Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a lead Satellite Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, California to work as part of the engineering team supporting satellite programs.
In this role, you will lead a highly capable multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Team (IPT) (engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, integration, test, and production control) in developing cutting edge technologies, working on innovative missions, and solving challenging problems. As a leader, you will motivate your team through stimulating challenges, developmental risks, and ground-breaking opportunities, while maintaining futuristic industry competitive edge.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensure commonality within product lines through early participation in unit development.
- Assess and steer product roadmaps so that the technology and complexity promote common product lines.
- Provide technical leadership and problem resolution using engineering processes associated with development, integration, and test of spacecraft products.
- Implement comprehensive root cause analyses and corrective actions to address significant technical issues.
- Implement and enforce engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices; drive productivity improvements via lean methodologies, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Prevent traveled technical risk and ensure technical risks and issues are resolved. When necessary, implement stops or delays to downstream program efforts.
- Lead and participate on Engineering Review Boards (ERB) to ensure changes do not create one-off solutions instead of unit commonality. Provide recommendations to the Program Office for actions presented at the Change Control Board (CCB).
- Lead and participate on Technical Readiness Reviews (TRR) and Failure Review Boards (FRB).
- Work closely with IPT leads to achieve balanced cost, schedule, and technical decisions as well as actively manage risk, issues, and opportunities from a cost and technical perspectives.
To meet security standards and protocols, all work is performed onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; domestically and internationally depending on business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. TS/SCI Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 10+ years working with satellites or other autonomous systems.
- 5+ years working in a leadership role.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 10+ years of engineering experience in spacecraft programs.
- 5+ years of demonstrated leadership developing or delivering flight vehicle hardware.
- Experience in flight hardware integration and test, anomaly resolution, and flight readiness preparation.
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
