Job Purpose Statement/s
Under general supervision, the Library Media Clerk will perform responsible clerical functions related to the acquisition, processing, circulation and recovery of text, library and reference books, audio-visual materials and equipment including Chromebooks, laptops, and a variety of other instructional materials and media; catalogue, shelve and store library media center materials/equipment, and do other related work as required.
Essential Job Functions:
Receive and process books, periodicals, workbooks and other instructional materials and media.
Receive, requisition and route audio-visual materials and equipment.
Receive, distribute and route 1:1 technology equipment including deployment, loaners and collection (Chromebooks, laptops, etc.).
Exchange damaged equipment, provide students with a loaner while issued equipment is being repaired.
Assist students in resetting passwords as needed (facilitate with ESS or IS).
Submit ticket to IS to request equipment repair as needed.
Liaison with parents regarding insurance and questions about the 1:1 program.
Enter insurance information on identified database.
Prepare Tech Support Request for damaged equipment/prepare for shipping to IS department.
Maintain circulation and distribution records.
Prepare and maintain a variety of file and record systems, including shelf and storage lists and records, catalog cards, request cards, and other files and records.
Assist in the selection and circulation of books, periodicals and instructional media to teachers and students.
May assist teachers in researching materials for classroom use.
May assist students in locating and selecting materials pertaining to specific subject matter areas.
Monitor student behavior and maintain an appropriate library media center environment through the use of positive behavior management techniques.
Lift, transport, arrange, shelve, box and package books and a variety of instructional materials and media.
Monitor, direct and assist student helpers.
May develop interest centers and create an enriching library media center environment.
Perform minor housekeeping functions in maintaining a neat and orderly library media center.
Repair and mend damaged books and other instructional materials.
Type cards, lists, bibliographies, and similar materials.
May prepare requisitions and order books and instructional materials and media.
Prepare and forward overdue notices.
Collect fines pertaining to overdue books and materials.
May maintain simple cash receipt records.
May adjust, lubricate and perform minor maintenance to audio-video equipment.
May provide assistance and advice to volunteer library personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern office methods, practices and equipment.
Appropriate English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Library media center classification systems.
Basic arithmetical concepts.
Student behavior management strategies and techniques.
Standard library reference sources, reference books, audio-video materials and equipment and related library media materials.
Routine recordkeeping and filing/retrieval procedures.

ABILITY TO:
Perform responsible library media center clerical functions, including circulation and cataloguing functions.
Maintain a variety of records/filing systems related to library media center.
Work with a wide variety of books, subject and author files, and other library media related materials.
Type at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute and/or demonstrate proficiency in computer use or show valid proof of completion of computer instruction.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Use new equipment/technology as it becomes required to perform job.
Assist students with research using computer.
Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Perform routine clerical tasks and operate machines and equipment.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children/adults.
Effectively problem solve issues as they arise.
Interface effectively with supervisor.
Requirements / Qualifications
Experience:
• One year of clerical experience, preferably in a library media center
Education:
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
• Training or coursework in library and general clerical procedures
All requirements must be provided at time of application

The East Whittier City School District provides educational opportunities (transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, including special education) for approximately 9,000 children. The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
