The Office of Undergraduate Recruitment handles freshman, transfer, international, and other prospective students who wish to apply to Texas A&M University. The office is also responsible for recruiting and enrollment an academically prepared student body. Serve as mentor and trainer for other staff and serve as lead on select recruitment programs. In addition, the individual serving in this position is expected to serve as an information resource, support and backup for the Associate Director(s) and Assistant Director(s), and provide leadership in managing recruitment and training programs. Other Requirements or Other Factors: This position is located in Houston Texas. Extensive travel required. Evenings and weekend work required. Capable of lifting heavy weight boxes, drive an automobile and travel independently.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four years’ experience in admissions, recruitment, advising, financial aid, or outreach.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Masters Degree.
- Significant experience in Admissions and Financial Aid. Supervisory experience.
- Bilingual (Spanish).
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment and computers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with individuals and in a group setting.
- Ability to work well with students and parents.
- Ability use word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Knowledge of financial aid programs and federal regulations relating to student financial aid.
- Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic organization, possessing a positive attitude and is customer- service oriented.
- Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment with good interpersonal communication skills.

Job Responsibilities
RECRUITMENT/MATRICULATION/TRAVEL
Assist to identify, recruit, and contribute to increasing the population of admitted and enrolled under-represented/targeted students by analyzing historical data Tracks and follows up with under-represented/targeted students and parents and maintains records of these activities Coordinates with community college staff to facilitate information sessions on the admissions, financial aid, and or the scholarship application process Organizes, implements, and reports on special programs/projects for recruitment/matriculation purposes while overseeing all components (marketing, accommodations, itineraries, etc ) Distributes admissions information through participation in TACRAO programs, high school and community college visits, special programs, and other assigned appointments Collaborates with outside organizations and constituent groups to involve them recruitment activities (eg; Phi Theta Kappa, Texas A&M Hispanic Network, Aggie Clubs, Aggie Mom s Clubs, and Black Former Student Network). Some travel is required
ADMISSIONS & FINANCIAL AID CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Maintains knowledge of current federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to financial aid and admissions Advises prospective students and their parents about admissions status, policies, and office programs and initiatives Works directly with applicants and their parents to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, appeals, and options for admissions decisions Assists students in solving their financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment and financial counseling Maintains records of these activities Uses professional judgment
GENERAL/JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Maintains a high level of knowledge of university information, organization, opportunities, and policies Maintains lead in resource gathering and research Establishes working relationships with university agencies, departments, counselors and advisors to enhance partnerships Represents Office of Admissions in a public speaking capacity both on and off campus to interested groups Uses SLATE, Banner, AIS, Howdy, and TAMUDocs for student information Maintains a high level of working knowledge of university information, organization, opportunities and policies Assists with developing and revising admissions and financial aid consumer information materials, publications and brochures for currently enrolled students, prospective students and their parents, as well as for college, department and university use Represents the department to internal and external customers.
Professional Development
Serves as a mentor and assists in the training of subordinate advisors regarding admissions and financial aid rules, regulations, policies and procedures, as well as how to develop and maintain relationships in high schools and community colleges Participates in workshops on admissions, counseling, financial aid or employee development Attend and/or present at conferences related to higher education Represent admissions counseling advisors in staff meetings.
