The Office of Finance is seeking an experienced candidate to fill a grant accountant position within its Accounting Division. The incumbent must exercise a high degree of professionalism, be able to resolve complex situations in the absence of a supervisor and be able to understand, interpret, and implement grant-related legislation and policies
Examples of Work
What You'll Do:
Review monthly trial balance to ensure system integrity, and identify and research questionable activity for errors or omissions.
Perform analytical review of accounts to identify errors in grant activity.
Review journal entries and supporting documentation for conformity with GAAP and County policies.
Compile, review, and validate labor and other costs for services provided to fight the spread of COVID-19 or other similar pandemics or disasters that may be reimbursable by federal grants.
Work with Federal, State, local, and private representatives, Agencies, Auditors, and Municipalities to clearly report on and communicate aspects of various grant programs.
Review encumbrances and expenditures to ensure compliance with appropriation authority, adequacy of accounting information, and allowability of transactions within the parameters established by policies, laws, and other guidelines governing program functions.
Research and analyze financial data and expenditure variances and prepare ad hoc reports on grant activity as required.
Accumulate data from SAP accounting system reports that are supported by related working papers, tables, schedules, notes, and other materials.
Participate fully in periodic audits or other examinations of the County's financial records, policies, and procedures.
Respond to information requests from internal and external sources concerning financial statements, audits, and reporting.
Maintain current knowledge of the County, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate understanding of generally accepted accounting and reporting practices, pertaining to areas of responsibility.
Actively participate in installations, enhancements, and modifications to systems that link or interface with the County's financial management system.
Provide technical assistance, information, and advice to other County agencies, persons doing business with the County, residents, or other persons making inquiries.
Give administrative and technical assistance, as required, at the direction of the supervisor.
Qualifications
What You'll Do:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Quantitative Analyses Business Administration, or a related field, plus at least one (1) year of professional accounting experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of professional Grant Accounting experience.
