Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Licensure:
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid and current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist
- NBCOT certification, if required by the state of employment
Clinical Experience:
- Prior experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting is preferred.
- Experience with adult populations, including individuals with functional limitations, cognitive impairments, and rehabilitation needs.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in assessing, diagnosing, and treating functional limitations and promoting independence in daily activities.
- Familiarity with standardized assessment tools and therapeutic techniques appropriate for geriatric populations.
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and environmental modifications to support functional independence.
- Understanding of cognitive rehabilitation techniques and strategies for individuals with cognitive impairments.
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical or cognitive challenges.
- A collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, speech-language pathologists, and physical therapists.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for occupational therapy practice.
- Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Continuing Education:
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to evaluate and treat patients.
- Physical dexterity to facilitate therapeutic activities and use equipment.
- Capacity to lift and position patients as needed during therapy sessions.
