JOB SUMMARY
The Director 1 will provide strategic leadership and management for the District’s Student Support Services in the Discipline Standards Department. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, strong leadership, communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills, as well as excellent time and task management skills. Director 1 must have the ability to work well under pressure independently and in collaboration with others. Director 1 is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing assigned caseloads, records, and databases and for meeting performance metrics and timelines. Director I is responsible for developing and implementing systems and strategies in the Disciplinary Department under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Division Superintendent or designee.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Process DAEP/JJAEP files and determine appropriate PEIMS coding. Review campus records pertaining to the investigation of disciplinary incidents from all district’s campuses. Maintain organized, accurate, and secured records in digital and/or hard copy format.
Schedule and serve as the Disciplinary Hearing Officer for all DAEP/JJAEP placements. Make final decisions regarding placement in DAEP/JJAEP according to established guidelines and procedures.

Collaborate with supervisors and Department colleagues to provide strategic leadership and vision for the department, aligning goals and objectives with the overall district mission.

Support oversight, planning, execution, and evaluation of programs, projects, and initiatives within the department.
Manage and allocate departmental resources, including budgetary planning and monitoring.
Support campus administrators by providing guidance, training, coaching, and performance management to ensure alignment of disciplinary systems and strategies at the campus level.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and professional growth.
Collaborate with cross-functional school and district teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective coordination of efforts.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
Monitor and evaluate departmental performance against established goals and metrics, implementing corrective measures when necessary.
Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the department's area of focus.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external and internal administrators, staff, and community stakeholders.
Represent the district at conferences, meetings, and events, serving as a spokesperson and advocate for the department.
Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, and grant funding to support departmental initiatives.
Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Director and the Division Superintendent(s) or his/her designee and other stakeholders on departmental systems, functioning, activities, achievements, and challenges.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies within the department's scope of work.
Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and growth to enhance leadership skills and industry knowledge.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; master's degree preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a leadership role, preferably at the campus level. At least 3 years of experience as a classroom teacher.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic oversight for multiple departments and/or a major division or for the entire district. Provides strategic direction and develops long-range plans which impact multiple departments or divisions. Using in-depth knowledge of multiple disciplines, identifies and evaluates high-impact issues, and provides strategy and direction to a major functional area or multiple departments. Establishes programs and policies, and ensures integration of operational objectives across multiple, major departments, program areas and possibly district-wide.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating complex solutions and issues, and negotiating outcomes. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to devise new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the division. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice and feedback.
