Essential Job Functions:
Provides program direction to the specialty center.
Provides leadership and direction to the IB teachers and support staff; reviews and analyzes data to lead the center’s efforts in achieving high academic performance of all students.
Coordinates curriculum analysis and writing; evaluates curriculum and instructional materials; provides guidance in and knowledge of multi-disciplines and a diversified curriculum; interprets IB curriculum and its requirements; provides guidance in an integrated approach to teaching the IB curriculum; communicates IBO policy, procedures and guidelines to the school staff; ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes, policies, and guidelines related to public schools.
Assists curriculum specialists with IB curriculum and course revisions; serves as a member of the school leadership team and represents the center at meetings, conferences, hearings and other public forums.
Responsible for the delivery of the IB curriculum and other IB requirements and material/textbook selection and ordering.
Responsible for communicating educational opportunities of the IB program including conducting orientations, open houses and countywide curriculum fairs; prepares and edits brochures and other publications and provides middle school with recruitment information.
Coordinates student selection and notification.
Coordinates activities regarding the extended essay; collects data on CAS (creativity, action, service) requirements and activities; provides academic counseling of students; identifies instructional needs and makes staffing recommendations; assists the principal with the scheduling of the pre-IB/IB classes.
Prepares program materials and orders IB instructional materials; processes and administers IB examinations.
Serves as spokesperson on IB to the school community and to the district; serves as contact with IBO, IB North America, and other IB schools and represents Midlothian at appropriate IB meetings.
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.

Teaching responsibilities to be determined
Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Responsible for budget preparation; monitors specialty center budget and record of expenditures; approves spending; ensures compliance with fiscal guidelines.
Report Preparation:
Prepares regular reports related to the instructional program, operation of the center, and the progress of the students.
Equipment Operation:
Utilizes computer, audio-visual equipment, and appropriate software applications such as Turnitin.com, Questia and Eduvo.
Contacts:
Works with committees of teachers, other specialty center coordinators and the IBO.
Work Direction:
Under supervision of the principal, provides direction and guidance to professional and support staff of the IB program.
Supervision:
Assists the principal in the selection, development, and support of center’s faculty and support staff.
Decision Making:
High degree of independent decision-making.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger; reach with hands and arms; handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls; talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and drive. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to prepare and carry (typically under 25 pounds) instructional materials.
