Brief Description of Duties: The Research RN for the Stony Brook School of Medicine Clinical Research Core (CRC) is responsible for the Protocol Management reviews for active protocols, including the determination of patient eligibility for protocol participation by way of chart review, data collection and patient evaluation/assessment identification. In addition, the research RN is responsible for reporting all adverse drug reactions to the FDA, NCI, Oncology cooperative groups, IRB and sponsoring drug companies. He/she will conduct patient and staff education on the research process and investigational drugs.
Duties:
Protocol management - reviews all active protocols:Submits protocols, amendments, notices, and terminations to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for review and approval. Revises protocol consent forms to comply with Federal and State and IRB guidelines.
Responsible for reporting all adverse drug reactions to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Institutional Review Board (IRB) or sponsoring drug companies. Responsible for federal and drug company audits. Acts as a resource person between SBU Medical Group and outside community attendings, cooperative groups and drug companies for protocol monitoring and information. Coordinate various research trials and ensure compliance with federal guidelines. Coordinates and conducts on-site audits or affiliates.
Participates and organizes the initiation of studies with pharmaceutical companies and cooperative groups.
Chart reviews and data collection:Determines patient eligibility from the Electronic Health Records for protocol participation. Responsible for data collection and data entry for study analysis. Ensures that treatments, evaluations, and dosing modifications are administered per protocol.Screens, consents, and enroll patients for clinical research trials. Complete study patient visits; collect, enter, and submit clinical trial patient data.
Perform phlebotomy, drug infusions, EKG's and process and ship human specimen such as blood, urine, other human tissue specimens.
Ordering and maintenance of clinical research study supplies and drug accountability.
Evaluation and reporting of study adverse events.
Administrative duties such as billing, budgeting, and contract administration; May assist principal investigators with grant submissions and renewals.
Other duties as assigned.
