Recreation Area Attendants assist in the operation and maintenance of East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD) outdoor recreation areas, visitor centers and grounds. They perform a variety of duties involving frequent contact with the public, especially on holidays and during the summer months, as well as physically demanding tasks. They MUST be able to swim since some of their duties are on or near a lake. The vacancy is at Lafayette Reservoir approximately 12 miles east of downtown Oakland from Highway 24. Candidates must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Duties of the position include:
• Collecting parking, boating and visitor fees
• Renting boats to customers
• Operating a cash register to sell various items in stock
• Filling out various forms such as boat rental forms
• Selling various permits such as daily fish access permits
• Scheduling reservations
• Answering visitor questions, giving directions and ensuring visitor compliance with the rules of the recreation area
• Cleaning restrooms, emptying trash cans, sweeping and mopping floors and decks
• Working with live fishing bait such as night crawlers
• Cleaning rental boats that are docked in the water
• Taking weekly and monthly inventory to determine what office supplies and merchandise need to be ordered and placing such orders
• Email, word processing, data entry, filing, and copying documents

• Use a PC, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Learn, explain, and apply appropriate procedures, laws and regulations, including water and boating safety regulations
• Follow oral and written instructions
The salary range of the Recreation Area Attendant starts at $5,759 per month, increasing to $6,047, $6,349, $6,666, and $6,999 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

1. Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent.
2. One year of experience involving public contact work; and
3. Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
4. Ability to swim for self-preservation.
5. Willingness and ability to: work holidays and weekends; adjust to an irregular schedule depending on the season (Lafayette Recreation Area is open year-round during daylight hours, which vary); work overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled as needed; work in all weather conditions; work where poison oak is a hazard; wear a uniform to work; and report to a work site not readily accessible by public transportation.
