Location/Division Specific Information
The Operations Engineer III will play a critical role at Thermo Fisher Scientific Electrical Fault Analysis (EFA) business unit located in Fremont California. Our factories produce low-volume, sophisticated analytical products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in the creation and improvement of their products and manufacturing processes.

The Operations Engineer III will be part of a complementary team responsible for the successful introduction of new products into the factory and field. They will contribute to the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used for manufacturing and service. This role collaborates closely with the Product Lifecyle Management, Product Marketing, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Global Technical Support groups to ensure the development of sustainable products. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, the Operations Engineering team implements quality, cost, and process improvements to increase customer satisfaction.
A Day in the Life:
- Develop and lead the electronic assembly sustaining program to address obsolescence and qualify design iterations
- Effectively run projects, coordinate contractors, and advise the activities of the Thermo Fisher Scientific PCBA COE
- Design vendor and factory qualification tests for PCB assemblies
- Work with internal project teams which consist of quality, regulatory, R&D, operations, supplier/sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.
- Lead continuous improvement supporting PPI and Lean initiatives
- Assist with technical procedures and documents.
- Resolves any problems encountered during manufacturing
- Investigate and analyze customer service problems and design improvement suggestions
How you will get here:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or related field.
Experience
- 4+ years of experience in a high-tech industry environment in service, development, or manufacturing (a combination of education and experience can be considered).
- Experience developing and maintaining electronic fixtures to qualify PCBA assemblies.
- Able to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical systems using electrical schematics, DVM, oscilloscopes, function generators and spectrum analyzers
- Experience with FMEA, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design of Experiments
- Demonstrated experience managing new product introductions and cross-functional projects
- Able to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining the cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships
- Experience using Product Document Management systems including Siemens Teamcenter
- Experience in bringing technology solutions to improve the quality, efficiency, and cost of manufacturing and service
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively and impactfully report to multiple levels of the organization
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comfortable in multiple schematic and ECAD tools including Altium, PADs, and OrCAD.
- Able to revise schematics, BOMs, and fabrication documentation for PCBA revisions
- Knowledge of key technologies including vacuum, motion control, process automation, optics, and material selection

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $86,300.00–$129,500.00.
