The position requires teaching four courses a semester, advising students, and providing collegial service to the Department and University. The Sociology and Criminal Justice Department resides in La Salle’s School of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers two majors: (1) Sociology and (2) Criminal Justice, and provides service teaching for many programs including Social Work and Nursing. The Sociology and Criminal Justice program at La Salle University is committed to providing students with a dynamic educational experience. Our top-notch program provides students with the foundational theoretical knowledge and practical skills they’ll need for successful careers. Our students also learn highly marketable interpersonal and communication skills which are key to becoming outstanding members of society and dedicated professionals.
Essential Duties
Development and instruction of new and existing course that may include: Criminal Law, Criminal Courts, Crimes of the Powerful, Introduction to Criminal Justice and other classes depending on departmental need and instructor’s area of expertise.
Academic advising and mentoring of departments majors/minors.
Attends department meetings and other university events, as applicable.
Secondary Responsibilities
Participation in prospective student recruitment activities for the University
Supervision of undergraduate student research projects
Perform other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Legal Studies or Sociology. ABD candidates with completion date by time of appoint will be considered, OR Juris Doctorate (JD).

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching at the collegiate level
Professional experience in justice settings
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
