Overview
The House Supervisor position has responsibility for providing administrative expertise and leadership in the identification and resolution of patient and unit related problems, using all relevant resources to affect resolutions. During 12 hour shifts and 2 weekends per schedule, the House Supervisor has the delegated responsibility to represent Administration on site and will communicate directly with the Administrator On-Call as needed for definitive resolution procedures. This position is responsible for the coordination of nursing units’ staffing in collaboration with the individual unit clinical coordinators, ACLS transports (to/from ED and to/from tests), and facilitate discharges. Additional responsibilities include assisting in case management, assuring core measure compliance, participation in patient satisfaction, monitoring and compliance assurances pertaining to safety, wage/hour, employment discrimination, accreditation, licensure, certification, reimbursement or other necessary regulatory approvals within the scope of the specific assigned position for both nursing staff employees and contracted nursing staff members. This position is also responsible for assisting in the selection, development and on going evaluation of staffing office personnel in their work setting.
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Anaheim Regional Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of ARMC. The employee shall support Anaheim Regional Medical Center’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan. The employee will also be expected to support all organizational expectations including, but not limited to; Customer Service, Patient’s Rights, Confidentiality of Information, Environment Care and other initiatives.
Responsibilities
Consistently applies infection control policies/practices.
Ensures that standard precautions are implemented for self and others during patient care activities.
Ensures practice of appropriate disease specific isolation by staff, MDs, patient’s and families
Assures population/age specific competencies for assigned area(s) are met through staffing pattern oversight.
Facilitates education/ training and inservices
Attends mandatory inservices/education activities 100% of time.
Completes and submits all required education documentation.
Consistently attends monthly supervisor meetings.
Enhances professional growth through participation in education programs and workshops, knowledge of current literature and the participation in the review process of performance within the staffing office, including the development of an action plan to advance skills and professional practice.
Participates in department specific performance improvement processes.
Participates in the implementation, evaluation and refinement of the staffing systems and leads quality assessment and performance improvement initiative in the department.
Applies performance improvement principles in job performance.
Provides leadership and clear direction to all members of the healthcare team.
Demonstrates leadership skills appropriate to the situation when dealing with patient/family, physician and/or staff issues.
Cultivates a positive work environment.
Facilitates tracking and proper processing of identified cases referred for committee and/or physician review.
Serves as a resource to unit clinical coordinators in developing solutions to patient care issues.

Provides for the supervision of the patient care and nurse staffing systems.
Collaborates and communicates with interdisciplinary team members and other departments, as needed, to establish therapeutic relationships to benefit individualized patient care and facilitate the achievement of desired patient/family outcomes.
Collaborates with the case management staff to identify patient placement and utilization needs.
Coordinates the admissions of patients and transfers into the hospital during all hours when the admissions nurse is not on duty.
Provides staffing coordination for after hours specialty procedures, e.g. Surgery, Endoscopy, etc.
Oversees the assignment of specific staff based on personnel competency.
Serves as a preceptor and role model as needed by providing a learning environment that facilitates the orientation and training of registry and/or contracted nursing staff to the unit specific policies and procedures, protocols and unit orientation checklist.
Oversees the Patient Care Classification system (PCS) records and maintenance as outlined in the PCS Policy and Procedure.
Oversees the maintenance of the record keeping for all contracted nursing staff.
Coordinates all nursing units’ staffing in collaboration with the individual unit clinical coordinators.
Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently oversee care in emergency situations.
Functions within the realm of established procedures and protocols, and utilizes critical thinking to analyze problems, prioritize interventions and take appropriate action.
Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making. Identifies patient and/or operational problems that affect delivery of care and provides leadership in developing solutions/action plans in enhance well-being.
Responds to all Code Blue calls house wide.
Facilitates the on-duty employee work injury program in the absence of the Industrial Nurse.
Coordinates HEICS initiation in the event of an Internal or External Disaster.
Has the ability to assume a patient assignment, depending on facility needs.
Promotes open communication/discussion with clinical coordinators, managers, directors, physicians and administration to ensure patient care needs and operational processes are effectively rendered in a timely manner.
Understands the organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
Interacts with ancillary departments to ensure patient’s needs and operational processes are met in a timely manner.
Communicates effectively with physician(s) to assure satisfactory collaborative physician/nurse interactions.
Provides feedback directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in a timely manner through verbal and written communications.
Documentation of hospital operational activities is written in a concise and timely manner
Accurately completes House Report end of shift summary to ensure administrative communications are maintained.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training/Experience
Graduate of a RN School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
Minimum two years recent acute care RN management/administrative experience.
Licenses/Certifications
Current CA RN license
Current BLS-HCP
Current ACLS-HCP
Management of Assaultive Behavior within the initial 3 month period of employment
