This position will be filled at the Attorney I, II, or III level depending on the credentials and level of experience of the successful candidate.
Position Information
This posting will be used to fill a full-time permanent position within the Attorney Series (Attorney I, Attorney II, or Attorney III) within the Office of Law. This entry-level attorney position is within the government procurement practice area and is eligible for part-time teleworking. The primary duties consist of reviewing, approving, and drafting contracts,, grants, and other agreements for and providing legal advice to the County Purchasing Agent and other County agencies. This position deals with government operations, primarily related to contracts and procurement, and is not a litigation position. There is considerable contact with high-level County officials for the purpose of providing legal services and advice.

Nature and Variety of Work
Work performed is evaluated by a higher-level Attorney. An employee in this class may be the legal specialist in a specific subject matter discipline and/or provide varied legal services and advice for several County departments or agencies.
Note: Attorney I, II, and III is a proficiency series in the Attorney classification, where the Attorney III is considered full performance. An employee has the opportunity to be promoted based on the required amount of legal experience and satisfactory work performance. Proficiency level advancements can be made when work assignments increase in variety and complexity; the employee meets the minimum qualifications for the higher level classes; less supervision and review is required of the employee in completing assignments; and greater independence is given in providing legal advice and preparing legal documents. Promotion to a higher-level class is at the discretion of the County Attorney.

Provides advice and counsel to County agencies as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Review, draft, and provide advice on contracts, grants, and other agreements for a variety of County agencies; approve all purchasing-related contracts, documents and agreements for form and legal sufficiency.
Acts as primary counsel to the Office of Central Services, Purchasing Division, including daily advice on matters relating to purchasing. Provides legal advice to other County agencies as requested.
Performs legal research and drafts legal opinions, memoranda, and advice as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant County Attorney (Attorney I) $65,158 - $122,988
Graduation from an accredited school of law; and admission to the bar of the State.
Assistant County Attorney (Attorney II) $75,568.00 - $142,638
Graduation from an accredited school of law; and admission to the bar of the State; and one (1) or more years of experience in professional legal work as an attorney.
Assistant County Attorney (Attorney III) $87,635 - $165,418
Graduation from an accredited school of law; Admission to the bar of the State; two (2) or more years of experience in professional legal work as an attorney
As of July 1, 2024: Pay Scales will be adjusted by 3% to the minimum and 3% to the maximum.

Preference will be given to applicants with one or more years as a practicing attorney with specific experience in contract negotiation and contract drafting, finance, or procurement.
