| Job Summary: | DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL AID
NATURE OF JOB: The Director of Financial Aid provides strategic leadership, vision, oversight, and coordination of Langston University's office of financial aid. The Director is responsible for the administration of Langston University's financial aid program, including federal, state, and institutional funds. In doing so, the Director will keep the FinancialAid Office abreast of current changes in federal and state rules andregulations, directs and participates in the continuous revision ofinformation, as required, and the dissemination of new guidelines and developments as they occur, and performsrelated duties as assigned. The ideal candidatewill also be knowledgeable of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC)as it relates to the appropriate application of these policies to the studentsand staff of Langston University; Committed to rules compliance, andimplementing strategies and systems to ensurethat Langston University operates in accordance to SAC rules; and attends state, regional and nationalconferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Through prudent andinnovative administration andmanagement, the Director plans, develops, organizes, coordinates, andsupervises the comprehensive studentfinancial aid program. Ensuresdepartmental policies and proceduresare followed and are in compliance with federal, state,and university laws, rules, and regulations. Preparesreports and makes requests for funds to federal, state, and private agencies as required by rules andregulations; oversees the administration of financial aid services to includeclient services, operations, loan processing including proper disbursement andnotification thereof, program planning, staffingand public relations; helps develop and implement a strategy for thetimely delivery of financial aid to students; coordinates programs andactivities with other programs and offices outside of financial aid services toensure effective use of institutional resources; sets program goals andobjectives consistent with institutional goals and objectives; developsadequate financial aid electronic data processing resources to support the functions of the student financial aidprograms; coordinates activities between Admissions, Registrar, Bursar,Financial Aid Office, and other areas affecting the delivery of aid tostudents; responsible for the FiscalOperations Report and Application to Participate; oversees properreporting to National Student LoanData System (NSLDS); monitors exit counseling process for all students andprepares related reports to demonstrate effective and timely processes;develops and supervises on-campus informational services; serves on and chairs various university-wide scholarship and financial aid committees as assigned;assists students and their parents in resolvingproblems in understanding the complexities and implications of all types of financial aid, and performs outreach to high schools as well as other groupsconcerning financial aid resources and topics.
POLICY-MAKING AND/OR INTERPRETATION: Acts asa liaison with federal, state and private agencies as well as institutionalofficers and administrators inestablishing and formulating appropriate policies to effectively administerfinancial aid programs; responsible for the interpretation and implementation of federal, state, andprivate agency rules and regulations asthey affect the delivery off funds tostudents and the operations of the University. Develops and implements controls to ensure compliance with financial aid policies set forth by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and other governing entities as appropriate. Develops policy ad procedure improvements to accomplish university goals. Provides oversight and management over all audit functions, both internal and external, related to the administration of financial aid programs.
MONETARY RESPONSIBILITY (STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDSAMOUNT AND CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR): Responsible for directing theauthorization for the coordination and distribution of the educational cost toat least 90% of the student enrollment. Errors in the management andadministration of programs can result in federal and state audit criticism anda request for the university to reimburse the appropriate agency. Properadministration and distribution of funds according to established guidelinesmust be carefully supervised to avoid institutional liability. The Director isresponsible for administering departmental budgets.
