Under the general supervision of the Child Development Programs Coordinator and
Program Manager supervises a center based program for children that meets the needs of children and
complies with Head Start Performance Standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITIES:
1. Supervises implementation of all program components at the Head Start Center in accordance with
Salida Union School District, Head Start, licensing, and other applicable regulations.
2. Supervises staff on creating a safe, appropriate environment.
3. Develops work schedules and assigns all staff, ensuring ratios are maintained.
4. Supervises and evaluates center staff.
5. Develops and maintains a plan for an initial and continuing relationship between program and parent,
including at least two home visits/year, parent newsletter, bulletin board, and conferences.
6. Leads staff in involving parents in classroom and other activities.
7. Assists parents in forming a center parent committee, including attending meetings, making
presentations, and coordinating parent education activities.
8. Prepares, maintains, and monitors records and reports required monthly and yearly.
9. Supervises staff in establishing smooth transitions to the program and from Head Start to the public
schools.
10. Plans and facilitates regular staff meetings.
11. Assists with program evaluation and planning.
12. Works cooperatively with Salida Union School District and grantee staff in implementing all program
components.
13. Prepares licensing application and works with Department of Social Services (DSS) staff on licensing
issues.
14. Supervise, when applicable, home visitors through staffings, observations of home visits and parent
activities, group socializations for parents and children, review of records and enrollment levels.
15. Evaluates, when applicable, home visitors, develops with home visitor improvement/training plans and
make recommendations to home visitor based on evaluations.
16. Model appropriate communication techniques.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
? Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics.
*Student behavior management strategies and techniques.
* Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
*Child development Head Start Performance Standards and Title 22 Regulations.
*Preparation of individual child development plan
*Record keeping
*Adult education principles
*Child health and nutrition
*Employee supervision techniques
*Community service agencies
Ability to:

The ability to read, write and speak Spanish is desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve running, walking or standing for brief periods.
Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

EDUCATION:
California Children’s Centery Supervisory Permit preferred
6 units in Administration/supervision in Early Childhood Programs
BA/BS in Child Development
Child Development Associate Certificate Preferred
CPR card required
First Aid card required
EXPERIENCE:
Two years teaching experience in a preschool program
Five years experience in a supervising position
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Fingerprint clearance required
TB clearance required
