What is Onward 2 High School’s Summer Institute?
The Smet Foundation’s Onward 2 High School will be hosting a Summer Institute at Sacred Heart High School and St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy. This enriching academic program will be offered to young men and women who will be entering the seventh and eighth grade in the Fall of 2025. The program’s curriculum is designed to build up essential concepts, inspire a growth mindset, and prepare students for academic excellence in science and math.

Position: Summer Institute Administrator
The Summer Institute Administrator is responsible for assisting the Program Director in managing and coordinating teachers, teenage program assistants, and an institute of around 150 students entering the 7th and 8th grade. The SI Administrator directly reports to the Program Director and helps to provide the teachers with support in curriculum, supervision, and act as a substitute teacher in case of absence.

Responsibilities
- Work 35 hours per week for 3 weeks during the program dates of Monday July 8, 2024 – Friday July 26, 2024
- 15 Instructional Days from 7:30 am – 2:30 pm including after school care
- Act as a substitute teacher with prepared curriculum and schedule if need arises
- Chaperone Field Trip to the LA Arboretum and a Harbor Cruise from Long Beach
- Oversee smooth operation of high-quality classes and activities utilizing a curriculum provided by O2HS
- Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to working with technology, attendance, communicating with families
- Motivate teachers and staff to run success operations and activities
- Attend compensated SI staff orientation prior to the start of the program July 2, 2024
- Frequently meet and communicate with O2HS Program Director
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Comfortable modifying and executing directions from the Program Director
- Ability to motivate faculty/students to achieve goals of the program
- Ability to build rapport and leverage relationships with staff to keep them engaged
- Cleared fingerprinting, Virtus Training, TB Test
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with 6th – 8th students
- Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching, or Admin Credential, or currently working toward credential
- Fluent in Spanish

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
