A Brief Overview
The Pulmonary Rehab Therapist leads and supervises the patient exercise sessions. They conduct patient interviews, evaluations and education sessions. Assists in marketing/promoting the program, lectures to community and medical staff, and publishes patient newsletter. Assists with preparation of the budget and scheduling of staff and patients.

What you will do

• Conducts initial evaluations/screenings of patients who are referred to Pulmonary Rehab to determine if appropriate and able to participate.
• Requests diagnostic or comparative test information from appropriate sources for patient enrollment.
• Completes individualized care plans for all patients, including short and long-term goals; modifies treatment plan as needed throughout 6-week session.
• Participates in all phases of Pulmonary Rehab class sessions, including education and exercise sessions.
• Continuously reviews the effectiveness of the program and makes suggestions for improvement as needed.
• Educate hospital departments, staff and physicians on the purpose and benefits of the program.
• Assists in department goal setting and marketing of the program.
• Complete daily treatment documentation and submit charges. Be knowledgeable and remain up to date with Pulmonary Rehabilitation reimbursement and billing for program.
• Participates in orientation and cross-training of personnel.
• Track and report patient-centered outcomes for the program.
• Assists with department finances with accurate daily billing practices, actively daily maintenance of patient care schedule.
• Participates in team and hospital wide meetings, committees and initiatives as assigned
• Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare – Tri-Valley’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions

Education Qualifications

• Other Successful completion of a 1 to 2 year credentialed Respiratory Therapist Program Required

Experience Qualifications

• Five (5) years of previous experience with pulmonary rehabilitation Required
• one year at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Criteria to attain level 3 requires 2 of the following 6 criteria be met at application. Should an external applicant have a specialized certification at time of hire, employee would be required to complete the second criteria within the first year of work.
• 1. Certifications: Achievement and maintenance of a specialized certification relative to pulmonary rehabilitation. You can request review by department leadership, including justification for this certification and how it impacts the department, done prior to working towards this certification as part of Level 3 achievement. As a general rule, a certification program should involve at least a week of classroom training and an exam at the end.
• 2. Hospital committee member: Regular member (80% attendance or more) of a committee that meets at least once per month or until completion of its assigned task. Actively participates during meetings and does work relevant outside the meetings. Brings information back to the department, disseminates this information, and helps with implementation, Able to demonstrate this to PSM leadership and discuss at goal setting.
• 3. Student clinical instructor for a professional student, in his/her terminal year rotation, for 320 hours: based on current department standards, this would equivocate to a full time student for 8 weeks, or equivalent based on school schedule.
• 4. Department champion for hospital or department initiative: Regular member (80% attendance or more) that meets at least once a month or until completion of its assigned task. Actively participates during meetings and does relevant work outside of meetings. Brings information back to the department, disseminates this information, and helps with implementation. Able to demonstrate this to PSM leadership and discuss at goal setting.
• 5. Creation/implementation/maintenance of a current and regular class or program within PSM department or in conjunction with other departments: Requires preparatory work to create the class (including but not limited to policies, budget, staffing, goals, marketing); active participation in the class (teaching, training),; maintenance (assessing and revising content or goals, process improvement, updating to reflect best practices or current state), and a yearly report to employee’s direct leadership with plans related to goal setting.
• 6. Be a designated primary resource (approved by leadership) for new employees based on subject matter expert status; ability to develop and implement training and competencies; creation of training materials; and ongoing access throughout a new employee’s first year of service at Stanford Tri-Valley. Able to demonstrate this to PSM leadership and discuss at goal setting.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of pulmonary exercise testing, pulmonary function testing and their implication to pulmonary rehab
• Experience, ability, and interest in adult education
• Enthusiastic/out-going personality with sound one-to-one and group interaction skills
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the hospital and departments
• Strong organization
• Strong time management ability
• Problem solver and critical thinker with the ability to anticipate possible issues
• Strong computer skills
• Self-initiative

Licenses and Certifications

• RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitione in CA required .
• BLS - Basic Life Support required .
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred .
