Job Summary
The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until canceled. (The names of eligible candidates on the current list will be merged to the new list in accordance with final scores.) There are currently multiple position open at various school sites. These are 3.75-8 hour/day, 10 month position.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of supportive tasks for the instructional staff; acts as liaison between home, school and the community; assists with counseling support, credit accrual, and work-study programs for bilingual elementary and secondary students. Positions in this class are assigned paraprofessional work in assisting bilingual elementary and secondary students, concentrating on identified “at risk” students. In addition, positions in this class are required to translate and/or interpret for non-English speaking parents/family members as necessary.
Requirements / Qualifications
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of college-level education with extensive and demonstrated (paid or volunteer) experience in working with limited or non-English speaking students and adults and ability to speak, read, and write in a designated second language.
Knowledge of
Correct oral and written usage of English and Spanish.
Student guidance principles and practices.
District and State testing requirements, rules, and regulations.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary at a level to serve as an English language model.
Basic filing and record-keeping techniques.

District graduation requirements and college entrance requirements.
Community resources for educational, health, and welfare services.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
