Identifies, recognizes and responds to the needs of unit staff to ensure that staff has the resources and tools available to meet patient and family needs. Takes appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints (i.e., appropriate follow-up with Unit Director and risk management). Addresses escalated patient issues and refers issues to Unit Director or Patient Advocate when unable to resolve. Monitors issues and their resolution. Identifies, initiates, and collaborates to provide needed educational programs. Develops management/ leadership focused in-service (e.g., time management, team building, conflict resolution, budget, leadership activities). Demonstrates current evidence-based practice and disseminates information. Ensures compliance with educational requirements through scheduling, planning, and support. Questions management practice as it relates to research. Completes performance reviews with Unit Director input as appropriate. Participate in determining the conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of quality nursing care. Communicate with patient family and significant others to help ensure proper care and treatment is provided to patient. Follow all policies and procedures related to patient care. Help ensure Nurses and others treating patients follow established procedures. Participate in departmental and interdepartmental meetings as needed. Performs related duties as assigned Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in nursing or related field preferred, Experience: Prior experience as Registered Nurse required. Lead or supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Good interpersonal skills required. Current knowledge of medical terms, ability to calculate medications and administer medications. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Licenses, Certifications: Licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State. BLS required ACLS preferred PALS preferred CNOR preferred Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions. An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions. Full range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients. Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination. Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range. Frequently sitting at desk working on computer. Ability to work flex hours.
