Job Abstract

The Entry Level Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapist I, reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Occupational Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. This is the entry-level staff therapist position designed for the new graduate with less than 12 months experience as a licensed therapist. The O.T. I works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Entry Level O.T. I plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive, and visual/perceptual tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Entry Level Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Entry Level O.T. may also supervise support personnel including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides as well as O.T. and O.T.A. students. The Entry Level O.T. actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Prior occupational therapy experience in an academic medical center environment.
Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
Possession of a graduate degree or certificate in Occupational Therapy from an accredited professional educational program.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to recognize signs of distress.
Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
