The Senior Associate Athletics Director is a leader and fundraiser for the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) and works closely with the Executive Associate Athletics Director, Development to plan and implement the overall fundraising strategies and goals for the department. Position Summary: The Senior Associate Athletics Director, Development is responsible for managing and assessing a wide range of development programs and activities to achieve the fundraising goals of the department. These programs and activities include principal gifts, major gifts, and annual giving.
The Senior Associate Athletics Director, Development will work closely with the Executive Associate Athletics Director, Development to create and execute the department’s fundraising strategy and define specific gift opportunities. The Senior Associate Athletics Director, Development will have oversight of the major gifts and annual giving programs while also managing a portfolio of principal gift prospects. They will also work closely with DAPER administrators and coaches, volunteers, as well as OOD fundraising staff, to advance the fundraising initiatives of DAPER.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled collaborator and influencer with a strong professional presence and superior interpersonal skills. They will have a demonstrated background of building and supporting diverse teams and striving to ensure equity and inclusion within their teams. The Senior Associate Athletics Director, Development oversees a staff of about eight and interacts with DAPER staff and coaches, key volunteers, and managers. General management responsibilities include developing, implementing, and assessing short and long-range plans for major gift and annual giving programs while also coaching and leading the fundraising staff.

In this role you will:
Manage major gifts and annual giving programs.
Plan and implement multiple fund-raising programs.
Provide strategy, leadership and direction that have a broad scope and impact.
Work closely with volunteers, including the Athletics Campaign Committee and the Stanford Athletics Board to develop goals and fundraising activities.
Maintain a portfolio of high potential/high return donors
Provide opportunities for professional growth focusing on retention to increase capacity and stability of the team.
Inspire and motivate staff by fostering a work environment that encourages new ideas, risk-taking, team-based efforts, celebrating current achievements and setting/meeting philanthropic goals.
Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience and management experience, preferably in an educational institution or nonprofit or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrated fundraising experience, sensitivity, and diplomacy.
Excellent judgment, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to lead and motivate others and earn the respect of associates at all levels.
Strategic skills to craft and help implement fundraising plans.
Demonstrated managerial talent in guiding major gifts and annual giving efforts.
Customer service expertise serving administrators and coaches.
Proven ability to meet fundraising goals with a strong track record in managing and balancing donor and coach relationships.
Ability to manage a large number of fundraising activities simultaneously.
Solid verbal and written communication skills.
Effective management experience and excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience recruiting, evaluating, mentoring, and placing staff.
Demonstrated experience engaging and motivating groups of diverse individuals, including strong volunteer management skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.

The expected pay range for this position is $195,000 – $255,000 per annum.
