Position Summary
The Electrical Shop Technologist is an accomplished tradesperson who supports the R&D facility infrastructure systems as well as the chemical laboratories and manufacturing Pilot Plants from an electrical maintenance standpoint. This individual has strong mechanical aptitude and skills. As part of the Facility team, you will be accountable for troubleshooting and repairing laboratory equipment, real property equipment, security and alarm systems, process monitoring systems, Pilot Plant equipment, as well as assisting with refurbishing and new installation projects.
Responsibilities
Perform routine/preventative maintenance on building systems such as motor control centers, distribution panels, transformers, UPS systems, fans, blowers, motors, pumps, deionization system, backup generator, personal safety systems, central clock system, and lighting systems
Install or modify premises wiring systems such as electrical services, lighting, receptacles, telecom wiring, and LAN wiring
Provide maintenance and installation support on laboratory equipment including blenders, mixers, battery testing apparatus, miscellaneous analytical equipment, environmental chambers, power supplies, vacuum pumps, inert atmosphere boxes, and Dry Room equipment
Repair and install Pilot Plant equipment, including presses, pumps, filling/dispensing stations, metal forming equipment, powder mixing equipment, and slurry mixing equipment
Support the Facility Safety effort by:
Playing a significant role on the Emergency Response Team
Providing expertise and support on many life safety systems such as combustible gas detection systems, fire alarm system, Dry Room alarm systems, and other miscellaneous alarm systems
Perform training for Contractor Compliance safety, Fire Safety, Scissor Lift Rescue, and Elevator Rescue
Participate in Lock Out Tag Out program and the Hazardous Energy Control Team, including training colleagues and auditing Lock Out Tag Out
What we are looking for
Associates degree in an electrical field or post-secondary Technical Trade school electrical certification
6+ years’ experience as an electrician/maintenance person in light to medium industry or commercial laboratory
Trained and current in either NEC or NFPA 70E and NFPA 70
Outstanding troubleshooting and communication skills
Experience with 480/240/208/110-volt distribution systems, 480-volt Motor Control Centers, Switchgear, and commercial lighting systems
Knowledge of commercial/industrial wiring practices and methods including rigid conduit, EMT, and FMC
Can install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of motors, starters, relays and switches, etc.
Knowledge of process controllers – controlling variables such as temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.
Execute LAN (Ethernet Cat 5, Cat 5E, Cat6) and telephone system wiring and practices
Trained and proficient in the use of standard shop tools and ability to interpret shop manuals, schematics, and blueprints
Ability to talk, hear, see, manual dexterity, stoop, bend, twist and lift up to 30 pounds on a regular basis
What we prefer
Wiring methods in hazardous locations such as Class 1 Division 1 and Division 2
Servo/Stepper Motion systems including motors and controllers
Experience with Logix 500/5000 and RS Studio a plus
Knowledge in other codes such as NFPA 79, NFPA 70B, NFPA 30, NFPA 101 a plus
Solid foundation utilizing Microsoft Office and various internet browsers such as, Chrome, Edge, etc.
General knowledge and understanding of various systems including fire alarm, CCTV, UPS, generators, boiler and furnace controls, and HVAC
Strong mechanical background including experience with pumps, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical transmission systems (i.e., gearboxes, belts, pulleys, chains, sprockets, indexing drives)
