Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Roofer performs all aspects of roofing involved in maintenance and construction. Reporting to the designated supervisor, the Roofer will perform all duties in a safe and professional manner.
We are looking for someone to start in this temporary position as soon as possible with an estimated end date of August 16, 2024.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance and construction of slate, copper, tin, asphalt and build up roofs.
Work with various machines and hand tools common to the roofing trade.
Prepare or work from sketches, plans and specs in accord with current building codes or accepted trade practices.
Provide suitable assignments to helpers if assigned. The Roofer may require the ability to work alone at times.
Use computers and/or electronic equipment to view work orders and keep records as needed.
Responsible for the upkeep of all tools and to maintain all Vassar owned equipment assigned.
Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Vassar College and departmental policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned. Duties may include caulking, scaffold set up, waterproofing and maintenance of gutters and drains.
Qualifications
High school diploma, vocational training or equivalent.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a roofer in commercial and residential setting.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration and the community. Must be able to display the highest ethical and professional behavior and demonstrating a positive attitude.
Ability to use computers and /or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions and keep needed records.
Ability to work at heights on all ladders, scaffolding and aerial lifts as required for job completion.
Knowledge of and proper use of, safety equipment and safe use of, hand, and power tools is required.
Ability to set up materials lists for installations or renovations is required.
Ability to work from blueprints, shop drawings, schematics and verbal explanations is required.
Must be able to move, position, place and transport objects up to and including 75 pounds.
Must be able to perform repeated bending, squatting, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
Must be able to remain stationary or continuous move around campus for a prolonged period of time.
Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Must be able to maintain a clean and safe working environment daily.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing is required.
Willingness to work overtime as available. Overtime, including responding to after hour and weekend emergencies, is assigned according to seniority guidelines.
