Intermediate Classroom Teacher Grades 6-8
Brief Description of Position – Provides an educational program for pupils in grades
6,7,8 or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Teaches assigned courses to sixth through eighth grade students, utilizing the
course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees.
2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and other general elements of the course of study
specified by state law and procedures of the school district.
3. Develops lesson plans and learning experiences to meet the needs of the
individual pupil.
4. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a
functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
5. Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records,
prepares grade reports, and communicates with parents concerning the individual
pupil's progress.
6. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in
assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
7. Creates, with assistance from pupils, a functional, age-appropriate and attractive
environment for learning.
8. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service
educational activities provided by the district, and/or self-selected
professional growth activities.
9. Provides an atmosphere which is enjoyable as well as instructional.
10. Performs basic attendance accounting and keeps other records as required.
11. Performs other duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and supplies, and maintains
required inventory records.
2. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and
ventilation to the extent possible.
3. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
4. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
5. Participates in curriculum development programs within the school of
assignment and/or on a district level.
6. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other
paraprofessionals.
Supervision Exercised of Received:
Under the immediate direction of the site administrator.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
1. Credential: General Secondary, Single Subject Credential, Multiple Subject, or
other appropriate California credential authorizing service in the position described.
2. Education: Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses to meet credential
requirements.
3. Experience: Student teaching (8 semester hours or 180 clock hours) or two
years of full-time elementary experience.
Essential Job Functions:
• Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of
various office equipment and machines
• Able to conduct verbal conversation
• Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
• Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk
• Able to sit for sustained periods of time
• Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders
• Able to lift up to 25 pounds

• Able to exhibit full range of motion for:
• Shoulder external rotation and internal rogation
• Shoulder abduction and adduction
• Elbow flexion and extension
• Shoulder extension and flexion
• Back lateral flexion
• Hip flexion and extension
• Knee flexion
• Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner
• Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a calculator,
typewriter and/ or keyboard.
Physical:
• Good physical condition; able to pass District physical.
