Job Summary:
The University of St. Thomas in Houston is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Chief of Staff to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President of Finance (VP of Finance). The Chief of Staff will play a critical role in supporting the CFO/VP of Finance by managing the day-to-day operations, overseeing strategic projects, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments, including Finance, Facilities, Custodial Services, Dining, Campus Police, Information Technology (IT), and Human Resources (HR). This position requires a strong background in financial management, strategic planning, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Support: Assist the CFO/VP of Finance in managing daily operations, including scheduling, meeting preparation, and follow-up actions.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the CFO/VP of Finance to develop and implement strategies and initiatives that align with the university's goals across all managed departments.
Project Management: Lead and oversee key projects and initiatives within Finance, Facilities, Custodial Services, Dining, Campus Police, IT, and HR, ensuring timely and successful completion.
Communication: Serve as a liaison between the CFO/VP of Finance and other university departments, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Ensure clear and effective communication.
Financial Analysis: Support the CFO/VP of Finance in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis activities. Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data.
Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency across all managed departments.
Team Leadership: Manage and mentor staff within the finance office and other departments under the CFO/VP of Finance's purview, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Cross-Departmental Coordination: Facilitate coordination and collaboration among Finance, Facilities, Custodial Services, Dining, Campus Police, IT, and HR to optimize operations and achieve strategic objectives.
Special Projects: Undertake special projects as assigned by the CFO/VP of Finance, often involving complex financial, operational, and strategic issues.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree or CPA is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience overseeing multiple operational departments is highly desirable.

Strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive information.

This is a full-time position based at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.
