Teaneck Public Schools, a unique and diverse school district, is seeking a School Business Administrator/Board Secretary to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Business Office. This includes financial operations (purchasing, budgeting, etc.), custodial services, food services, and transportation. The successful candidate will also serve as the Secretary of the Board. Located in Teaneck, NJ, a vibrant suburban community just five miles from NYC, our preK-12 school district boasts a student population of 4,300 and a school budget exceeding $97 million.
The role of School Business Administrator / Board Secretary is a crucial one, demanding high-level Business Administration skills with proven experience in Public School Administration. Proficiency in all aspects of managing the business office, including budget development, financial reporting, purchasing, contract negotiations, insurance, transportation, and food service, is essential to our operations.
Qualifications:
NJ School Business Administrator Certification is required.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience with New Jersey Public School business office processes.
Minimum of five years of experience in an accounting related field with expertise in school finance either as a school employee or a school auditor.
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in school budgetary control and financial reporting and accounting procedures consistent with statute, code, and GAAP requirements.
Experience and competency in using electronic payroll systems, New Jersey and federal data systems, and data processing applications, including but not limited to Excel, Google Sheets, etc.
Ability to demonstrate competence in managing the business functions of a comprehensive New Jersey K-12 School District.
Knowledge of statutory requirements and accepted practices in school districts related to budget preparation, business operations, insurance, purchasing, transportation, food services, school plant operations, facility planning, school construction, school development, grants, public school employment and collective bargaining.
Ability to read, write and clearly communicate with staff.
Ability to think critically and problem-solve, set goals, and work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to collaborate and work diligently with school district leadership and staff.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities.
Must pass a criminal history background check and provide proof of US citizenship or resident alien status.
Comprehensive understanding of the duties of the Board Secretary pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:17-5et.seq.
Minimum five (5) years of successful experience as a School Business Administrator / Board Secretary highly preferred.
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Note:This is an exempt position. Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
