GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Summer GA is a live-in residential education opportunity in a Residence Hall. The Summer GA is responsible in partnership with the Assistant Director of Housing Operations for the coordination and development of the residence program in summer housing. They are the main facilitators in the planning and implementation of a meaningful residence life experience for students. The Summer RD provides supervision and support to a student staff of 6-8 Summer RAs, and supports Housing Operations in all summer related housing processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(Approximately 20-29 hours per week)
1. Housing Operations:
Support check in and check out at start and end of summer and on a rolling basis
Manage ongoing roster of summer students in partnership with AD for Housing & Residence Life
Inventory rooms and communicate needs with Facilities, Auxiliary Services, and Conference Services
Manage summer housing transitions in coordination with Central Office
Support Early Arrival check-in process
2. Involvement with Students:
Plan residence hall programming that aligns with the unique needs of summer residents
Establish visibility, availability, and approachability - develop a familiarity with residents through consistent office hours, building walk-throughs, and resident one on ones
Confront, counsel, care, and refer student discipline
Address Student Care issues as they arise and respond/report immediately in case of emergency
3. Student Staff Supervision:
Hire, train, and supervise staff of 6-8 Summer RAs
Lead weekly team meetings
Create and manage Summer RA duty schedule
Provide support to Summer RAs through regular communication and semi-regular one on ones
4. Student Care & On-Call:
Serve as primary on-call respondent after hours Monday through Thursday (4:30pm to 8am)
Create RA Duty schedule
Respond to high crisis and high conduct situations after hours and as needed during the day
Additional Information
The Summer GA will need to be available for the following dates/times:
Summer RA hiring and training (late April; can work up to 29 hours/week)
Saturday, May 7 - Monday, May 9 (support for Summer Move In)
Saturday, August 13 - Sunday, August 14 (Summer to Fall Transition)
The Summer GA will be free to take accrued vacation during the summer; they should not plan on taking more than one consecutive week for vacation.
The Summer GA will continue to live in their academic year residence; the majority of work hours will be spent in RD
Offices and lobbies of buildings supervising, as well as some time in the Central Office.
The Summer GA should work approximately 20-29 hours per week; some weeks may be slightly more and others will be less. In addition to serving on-call during the week, the Summer GA may be a point of contact for Summer RAs in moments of crisis, and should respond accordingly. When the Summer RD contract overlaps with current GA responsibilities, the Summer GA will be expected to work the following hours (at most):
May 1- May 20: 9 hours in addition to 20 GA hours
July 25 - Aug 15: 9 hours in addition to 20 GA hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Currently serving in GA role at Biola University and intends on continuing in GA role in Fall
