AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION MECHANIC
DEFINITION
Under direction, perform skilled mechanical maintenance work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of District air conditioning systems, refrigeration equipment, and related equipment; and perform related duties as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
· Install new air conditioning and refrigeration equipment with associated pneumatic or electrical control systems;
· Repair or replace defective parts in units, equipment, and control systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, water cooling towers, motors, air handling units, air compressors, and HVAC units;
· Calibrate and repair controls, including thermostats, sub-master units, pressure controls, and gauges;
· Conduct regular and scheduled preventive maintenance inspections of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and units; lubricate, test and service4 motors, compressors, pumps, fans, controls, and other equipment; adjust and replace belts and filters;
· Make electrical connections and disconnections related to air conditioning and refrigeration equipment;
· Perform pipe fitting, brazing, and soldering;
· Requisition materials and supplies; and
· Provide work direction to others as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade;
· Knowledge of the operation of various types of air conditioning systems;
· Knowledge of the operation of various types of control systems;
· Ability to interpret and work from schematics, drawings, and blue prints;
· Ability to diagnose defects; install, repair, overhaul, and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration systems, and related equipment;
· Ability to use and care for mechanical tools and test equipment;
· Ability to perform shop mathematics
· Ability to maintain written records;
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
· Ability to communicate effectively;
· Ability to lift; and
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to:
· Graduation from High School.
· Four years of experience in structural maintenance and repair of buildings and related facilities.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIRED
· Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License
· Possession of E.P.A. Refrigerant Certificate
