SALARY $60,052.00 - $73,123.00 ANNUALLY
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant’s education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.
PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
A Public Works Inspector III assigns, reviews and gives work direction to subordinate inspectors engaged in the inspection of highway, street, bridge, water and waste water systems facilities or other construction projects. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents are exposed to construction sites, inclement weather, dust, noise and traffic. Work requires minimal physical exertion; however, there may be periods of prolonged standing or walking.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only classified City employees who indicate the minimum qualifications on their applications and have successfully completed a probationary period on or before the day of filing an application will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
On or before the date of filing the application, eligible classified City employees must:EDUCATION: Have Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
OR
EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience in performing construction inspection work in one of the following areas: highways, streets, bridges or water and sewer systems facilities.
AND
(NOTES) EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management may be required.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge of City construction specifications and codes.
- Ability to inspect highways, streets, bridges or water and wastewater system facilities for damage or deterioration.
- Ability to inspect the work of contractors to ensure compliance with City construction specifications, standards and codes.
- Ability to complete forms and reports and to maintain a daily log.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to assign and review the work of subordinate inspectors.
- Ability to train new employees.
