NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Television Operations Group is currently seeking a Digital Broadcast System Support Engineer responsible for the ongoing technical performance of editing, graphic systems and networks in support of television broadcasts, video production, post-production, render farms, streaming, and conference room operations.
In this position, you will:
Design, implement, supervise and maintain a production network /server environment, includes playback video servers, post production edit systems/graphic stations, EditShare NLE platforms, ancillary department servers and archives, render farms, streaming gear while supporting the TV broadcast and editing team in day-to-day operations.
Work with video codecs, video routing, graphic formats, graphic playbacks and streaming technologies.
Install and configure new hardware and software for TV studio, edit and graphic stations, content management system, streaming technology equipment and other equipment.
Assist in technical aspects of conference room setups, including the solving of any physical infrastructure of cabling and power, along with any audio, lighting, and projection system issues.
Test and deploy OS and system-level patches and version updates. Maintain product lifecycles.
Provide proactive systems maintenance and solve of any hardware and software issues.
Serve as the direct interface with end-users for any technical expertise as well as assistance in software and hardware configurations in a predominantly Adobe Premiere environment.
Coordinate with JPL’s IT/Cybersecurity organization to align with all published security and institutional IT requirements.
Analyze technology trends, mentor colleagues, and make recommendations to improve day-to-day practices and operations.
Perform any additional duties related to the operation and execution of all technical operations of the Office of Television Operations.
Main qualifications include:
This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of detailed experience in the field.
Apple, Cisco, Juniper, Crestron, and Adobe certifications are helpful.
Experience supporting live television event production and fast paced production and post production work.
Experience with compressed video over IP technologies like NDI and audio over IP like Dante.
Proficient knowledge of Digital Media and Media Asset Management Systems, including EditShare and Frame.io.
Moderate to sophisticated knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities of Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro.
Prior experience implementing multimode, multi OS render farms using Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine and more.
Demonstrated knowledge of computer network engineering and TV broadcast and streaming equipment.
Prior experience of implementing and managing SAN infrastructures.
Proven proficiency in multi-platform systems integrations and production equipment.
Proficient IT troubleshooting and systems diagnostics skills.
Proficient in macOS Sonoma and later operating systems, product lifecycle, scripting, remote control/management, and patch management.
Proficient in the maintenance and management of Windows 10 & 11, Windows Server platforms and Linux.
Experienced with Synology NAS appliances, Promise Storage, Cisco and Netgear managed switches.
Familiarity of serial control and management of broadcast and conference room automation equipment.
Ability to effectively communicate sophisticated processes and procedures to end-users in clear and concise language.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to respond to issues and challenges quickly and professionally.
