Definition
Under the supervision of the Director II, Child Development, the Health Specialist RN plans the health services for pupils within the delegate agency; assists families in identifying and obtaining medical and dental care, establishing an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health care and providing referrals and follow up services as needed. Provides health education for students, parents, teachers and other Early Head Start/Head Start/State Preschool personnel; coordinates the activities of the Health Advisory Committee; implements Head Start Performance Standards in the area of health services and improves the overall health of children and their families through assessment, education and referrals. Establish procedures in accordance with the Performance Standards, licensing, state and local regulations and assure that all relevant regulations are maintained.
REQUIREMENTS
• AA degree or higher in nursing or related field with pediatric experience
• Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse License
• Experience with demonstrated competence including experience working with parents of children enrolled in a Head Start or a Child Development program, including parents of children with special needs/disabilities.
• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards
• Ability to work effectively in multi-ethnic communities
• Ability to make public presentations to large groups, explaining complex issues or processes in a step-by-step way
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing with large and small groups
• Computer experience with entry data
• Ability to work as a member of a team where diverse program content must be well integrated to provide quality services
• Skill in collecting, assembling and analyzing data, preparing complex reports and monitoring progress
• Knowledge of the State of California licensing requirements
Possession of First Aid/CPR certificate.
• Possession of a valid California Driver’s license.
• Completion of a Criminal Records Check is required prior to beginning work.
