Job Summary
The Fleet Director is responsible for all aspects of vehicle and equipment management (including planning) which includes oversight and direction for all fleet repair and maintenance programs, technical standards, and specification development, regulatory, contractual and policy compliance, supplier quality management, fuel management programs, and management of systems to optimally utilize resources while minimizing costs. The Director will manage asset productivity, processes, and the development/governance of fleet metrics and standards/specifications. The Director will focus on fleet efficiency, continue to develop our vehicle replacement/deployment strategy, and develop plans to enhance the allocation of all resources (drivers/vehicles) while maintaining a strong focus on operational safety. The Director will manage all external providers (OEM’s, Up-Fitters, R&M, and leasing vendors). The Director will also be responsible for delivering industry-leading administrative practices. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the retail commercial fleet and the associated vehicle programs, with an emphasis on providing fleet solutions to support our field operations that focus on cost control, customer service, and operational efficiency.

Fleet Size: 10,000 plus
Repair & Maintenance Annual Budget: $45mm
Vehicle Fuel Annual Budget: $38mm
Vehicle Lease Annual Budget $52mm
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement the Fleet management philosophy, strategy, and standards.
Manage and improve all aspect of our fleet deployment process including optimal driver/vehicle combination, asset utilization, downtime, spare pooling etc.
Manage the Fleet Management services vendors.
Manage the development of the annual company budget for all vehicle costs (operating and capital) and partner with Finance to explain variances on a monthly basis.
Manage the company fleet fueling program; including the fleet fuel card program(s), negotiating discounts, monitoring compliance to company policy and providing necessary information to the tax department to collect entitled tax credits.
Manage/Improve the vehicle utilization process to insure the effective use of all applicable assets.
Develop best in class order-to-delivery processes in conjunction with our fleet leasing partners/Up-fitters to ensure our new vehicles are deployed ahead of the winter season.
Lead the relationships with key suppliers by developing strategic supplier partnerships/policies.
Establish and communicate fleet metrics and reliability measurements and take a leadership role in the continuous improvement.
Responsible for driving continuous cost and productivity improvements and for ensuring the best return on capital.
Develop and implement a best-in-class fleet administrative program.
Responsible for the performance management (including goal/objective setting), development, training, and education of all Fleet personnel.
Manage any SOX compliance programs applicable to the Fleet function.
Develop and manage department overhead expenses (budget).
Knowledge and Experience
Experience of managing fleet operations.
Proven track record of partnership relationship development and significant cost reduction and efficiency improvement results.
Extensive knowledge of supply chain management practices.
Cross functional experiences (Sales, Marketing, or Supply Chain) a plus.
