What You'll Do:
- Take the helm of our Capital Improvement Program, overseeing development, implementation, and execution to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Education & Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the necessary qualifications is as follows:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
AND
Six years of recent, continuous, progressively responsible professional engineering experience, including three years at the mid-management/supervisory level in a professional engineering organization comparable to Fullerton's scope of activity including municipal maintenance programs.

Special Requirements Include:
Licensed as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
The City of Fullerton’s Conflict of Interest Code requires that the Principal Civil Engineer file financial disclosure statements in accordance with state and local laws.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs including attending evening meetings.
Valid Class C California driver's license and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
California Government Code §3100 – 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.
Other:
Possession of a valid Land Surveyor’s License is preferred but not required.

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Principal Civil Engineer will be placed on an eligible list for this classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
Appointment:
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees who are appointed to safety-sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
An appointee will serve a 6-month probationary period.
