The City of Pasadena, Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Public Works Administrator to plan, direct, and implement the activities of the City's street maintenance operations, including pavement, sidewalk, trees, lights and traffic signal control operations. The Public Works Administrator will also establish and oversee City’s sewer and storm drain infrastructure maintenance programs. Essential Functions

Plan, assign, direct and review through subordinate supervisors the work of staff performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks including installation, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks; street painting and signing; urban forestry administration, streetlight and traffic signal repair; and storm drain and sewer collection system maintenance.
Coordinate stand-by emergency response and/or respond to emergencies. Make regular field checks of crews in operation.
Assist in the development of specifications for street maintenance and repair equipment.
Work with elected officials, executive management, and the general public, as well as with federal, state, regional and other local agencies, departments, boards and commissions on street system, sewer and storm drain infrastructure maintenance.
Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance and disposal program for urban forestry management of 60,000 trees; establish standards and benchmarks for maintenance operations; evaluate operations to maximize quality and cost effectiveness of services.
Monitor community issues and trends and identify proactive strategies to meet emerging needs.
Prepare and oversee capital improvement master plans to meet current and long-range street and forestry development, use, and maintenance needs.
Oversee public education efforts and policy development for the urban forest.
Mentor and develop subordinate staff to help grow within the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, or a closely related field; and
Six years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following: street, streetlight, traffic signal, storm drain and sewer maintenance, and/or urban forestry; including three years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
Desirables:
A graduate degree in public or business administration or closely related field.
Experience with a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS); particularly Lucity.
Experience in public sector and union environment.
Certification as an Arborists by the International Society of Arboriculture.
Experience with construction and familiar with construction standards.
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process will consist of application evaluation, an oral panel interview, an online Work Preferences Questionnaire, and a department level interview.
