Minimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Relations or closely related field from a four-year accredited college or university is required. Two years of full time paid expeience in government or private industry office administration is required. (Substitution: Two years of full time experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking.) Must be able to operate a personal computer with Microsoft Office Suites.

The ideal candidate for the position of Development Review Coordinator is s detail-oriented, communicative, organized and collaborative. The individual ought to have an interest in both quality urban design and administrative duties. A background in architecture, urban design, and planning is preferred as the role will include reading site plans and reviewing technical drawings.
This individual is both prompt and careful with administrative duties and approaches every project with a solutions- and service-oriented mentality. The Development Review Coordinator responds in a timely manner to applicants and communicates the appropriate next steps and processes. The coordinator thrives working on multiple projects or tasks that have relatively short project timeframes.
Examples of Duties
Performs intake and triage for design review case applications and reviews design review case applications for completeness for assigned design review committees including the Downtown/Flats Design Review district
Tracks and authorizes permit sign off in Accela for design review cases
Coordinates and/or assigns pre-development meetings for larger projects as well as cross-departmental reviews (e.g. PETBOT)
Relays information about Transportation Demand Management
Directs applicants to resources that will assist in quality development projects
Assigns cases to neighborhood planners and zoning reviewers as needed
Creates and manages agendas for assigned design review committees
Facilitates meetings for assigned design review committees
Creates presentations for design review committees, public art projects and Planning Commission meetings
Recommends and coordinates training and educational opportunities for design review committee volunteers
All other duties as assigned
About the City Planning Commission. The City Planning Commission envisions a thriving urban community resilient in the face of changing regional, national, and global conditions. The department is an advocate for the preservation and establishment of prosperous communities that are authentic and diverse, providing equitable access to the resources necessary for residents to thrive. We accomplish this by enhancing physical development, preserving the City’s history, and creating places for people that are healthy, sustainable and vibrant for current and future generations. The department has up to 29 staff members who oversee the City Planning Commission, the Landmarks Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Board of Building Standards and Appeals.
Supervision The Development Review Coordinator will report to the Manager, Neighborhood Planning.
Preferred Expertise
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with focus in urban or regional planning, architecture and/or urban design, or related field is preferred.
Demonstrates skills and experience reading site plans and architectural drawings is strongly preferred
Demonstrates familiarity with urban architecture and history, its impact on Cleveland, and the importance of urban design
Demonstrates strong organizational and administrative skills and thrives in an environment with multiple projects and tasks
Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to work expeditiously in a deadline driven environment
Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities
Possesses excellent speaking, listening, and writing skills and can communicate easily and tactfully across all levels of government and with all customers
