Under direction, is responsible for supervising and participating in the investigation, construction, repair, or servicing of municipal wastewater/stormwater collection systems; performs related duties as required.

Supervises employees engaged in the investigation, installation, repair, and maintenance of storm and sanitary sewer lines;
Participates in all phases of sewer maintenance or investigative work;
Operates air hammers, generators, and pumps used in work;
Drives commercial motor vehicles to transport workers, materials, and equipment;
Reads sewer maps to locate sewer lines;
Monitors toxic gas and oxygen levels inside sewer lines while completing work;
Answers questions from the public regarding investigations and work being performed;
Completes reports concerning hours used, work progress, and disposition of equipment and material;
Studies assigned projects in the field to develop approach for excavations and repairs;
Selects materials and equipment required to complete project according to size and nature of project; orders needed materials or resources for jobs;
Oversees and inspects work projects to determine progress and ensure conformance to specifications and regulations;
Oversees placement of environmental controls for transient impacts on the sewer system such as installing bladders or dispersing deterrents (e.g. lime) to prevent spread of spills or pollutants;
Speaks with supervisor and utility representatives (e.g. OUPS) to coordinate work schedules and safety for the most effective and economical repairs;
Signs performance reviews and initiates disciplinary actions;
Trains and ensures employees follow proper work and safety procedures, equipment usage, and operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience investigating, constructing, maintaining, or repairing wastewater/stormwater collection systems.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
By completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Class A commercial motor vehicle operator's license allowing operation of vehicles with air brakes. Some positions may require the following endorsement(s): Tanker (N).

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and will replace the names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering planning and organizing, reading comprehension, problem sensitivity, reading maps and plans, sewer maintenance, and Microsoft Outlook and Word 2016 and 2019.
The exam is expected to be administered in July-August. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
